Business Portal Error

I'm trying to launch Business Portal on our test system and I am receiving an Unexpected Error. There is an error in the Application Event Log which is as follows:

Error initializing Safe control - Assembly:Microsoft.BusinessPortal.PortalPages, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35 TypeName: Microsoft.BusinessPortal.PortalPages.Executable.RegionalSettin?s Error: Could not load type 'Microsoft.BusinessPortal.PortalPages.Executable.RegionalSettin?s' from assembly 'Microsoft.BusinessPortal.PortalPages, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35'.

I have checked the Web.Config file and everything looks fine. I also compared it to the web.config file on our production system.

Any ideas on what is happening. I haven't been in BP on our test system for some time and it did work previously.

    Hi Jon,

Thank you for posting to this OTC.

Strange that this error message is showing Could not load type 'Microsoft.BusinessPortal.PortalPages.Executable.RegionalSettin?s' .  Is "RegionalSettin?s" correct? I would expect the line to be :

    <SafeControl Assembly="Microsoft.BusinessPortal.PortalPages, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" Namespace="Microsoft.BusinessPortal.PortalPages.Executable" TypeName="RegionalSettings" Safe="True" />.

Is that just a typo, or is that what is in the web.config file? Can you check that entry?

Let me know if you have any questions.

That is what is in the web.config file. I checked the production server and the line in there is as follows:

    <SafeControl Assembly="Microsoft.BusinessPortal.PortalPages, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" Namespace="Microsoft.BusinessPortal.PortalPages.Executable" TypeName="RegionalSettinĂs" Safe="True" />

The production server is functioning fine.

    Jon,

It would still seem that there may be a problem with you web.config. We would suggest that you do a repair which will rebuild the web.config entries. You can go to Add/Remove Programs and highlight Business Portal. You will then want to select Change. Run Repair. Let me know if you have any questions.

It won't let me repair the installation. It says that it's not a valid installation package. I am pointing to the one that I used to initially install Business Portal.

I conferred with a co-worker and we would suggest that you create a support case for the Business Portal team through Customer Source. Unfortunately, this problem might involve more troubleshooting than can be handled on a forum posting because it appears to be a corrupt installation. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to this post. As I mentioned, this is our test environment so I might just blow everything away and re-install Business Portal. This was working before so I don't know what happened to it unless there were some OS updates  applied that caused the issue.

    Thanks

    Jon
