Some companies and not other show SSRS reports in SharePoint--same permissions for all

Posted on by 460

Hi,
We have GP 2010 and we've deployed the Excel-Based Reports and SSRS reports to two separate SharePoint Document Libraries.
I used the new Reporting Tools Setup window to deploy both types of reports. The Excel reports show in Dynamics for all companies. The SSRS reports show in Dynamics for the first two companies I deployed about six weeks ago, three more were added and the reports deployed for them (which show fine in SharePoint)  don't show in Dynamics. I can't see the difference between the two (same permissions, all show as deployed correctly, users can click on these reports with no permission issues in SP) Help!

    Donia,

You are very welcome.  Thanks for investigating and finding an efficient way to set the column values!

    Thanks

Hey, I know I said thanks already, but I wanted to say I really appreciated you pointing me in the right direction as to Dynamics requires the company property to be present for SRS reports to show.

This has been fixed. In SharePoint, Under the document library> Document Library Settings > Change Default Column Values > I set the default column to one of the companies. I then redeployed the reports to that company using Dynamics Reporting Tools Setup. The company column was populated and therefore the SRS reports showed in Dynamics because there now was an associated company property. I did this for all the companies. I then went back to the document library> Document Library Settings > Change Default Column Values > I set the default column to not have a default.

I don't know why the first companies created worked without me having to do this--nothing has changed on the SharePoint side. And, the Excel reports worked fine in the newly created companies--their company property showed up correctly from the get-go.

    Thanks for the help!

    Donia,

Until this is fixed, I'd probably recommend the following.

    1. Make a backup of your SharePoint context db.
    2. Do a sql profile on your SharePoint content db.
    3. Modify one of the srs reports to have the correct company name.  Use SQL Profiler to discover where the SharePoint data lives in SQL.
    4. Use a sql script to update the columns on srs reports to the appropriate value.

I honestly can't say how difficult or easy the above may be.  Please try it and respond back with your results.

    Thanks

    Rob

Re: Some companies and not other show SSRS reports in SharePoint--same permissions for all

Thank you! It looks like some reports have the company and others don't. However, if I add the company name in SharePoint to the ones that don't they show in Dynamics! Great!

However, it won't let me change the company name for a bunch of reports at once because it says data source and description are required, so datasheet view doesn't work and there are thousands of reports and muliple companies here. Any ideas how I can push the company name doesn through the report deploy tool? Thanks again for your help.

    Donia,

Please check something else for me.  There should be a Company property on each report, and it should contain the company name (db name I think) for the given company.  If that is not defined, the report will not show up in Dynamics GP.  If you set it, it should show up.

    Thanks

What version of GP are you using?  GP 2010 RTM or 2010 R2?

    >>>GP 2010 R2

Are all SRS reports deployed to the same SharePoint document library?

    >>>Yes

When you say they "don't show", what exactly do you mean?  Where are you looking for them?  On the home page, reports list, etc.?

When we go to any of the three new companies> Reports Shortcuts (or Sales or any of the other categories within Dynamics)> SRS Reports--no reports show in Dynamics. They do for the first two companies. All the reports show in the SharePoint libraries.

What are the three new company names?  Is there anything unique about them that you can see?  Were the folders in SharePoint created just as they were for the first two?

    >>>Yes, the reports were created using the Dynamics Reporting Tools Setup. Exact same library for all the companies. The company names are unique and run along the lines of SoftT or OptT. I haven't been able to isolate what is unique so far. I know a lot about SharePoint, but not that much about Dynamics.

What version of SharePoint are you using?

    >>>Enterprise version, 2010

    Thanks so much Rob!

More info: I've printed off a status report from the reporting tools setup and all the libraries show in the status report. When you go to open the Reporting Services Reports within Dynamics for the companies that work, you see "connecting to external reports" along the right-hand side of dynamics and when the reports load you can see the option, series, etc. at the bottom (for the companies that don't show, nothing shows up and reports say "0"

    Donia,

Thanks for using the newsgroups.  I have a few questions.

    1. What version of GP are you using?  GP 2010 RTM or 2010 R2?
    2. Are all SRS reports deployed to the same SharePoint document library?
    3. When you say they "don't show", what exactly do you mean?  Where are you looking for them?  On the home page, reports list, etc.?
    4. What are the three new company names?  Is there anything unique about them that you can see?  Were the folders in SharePoint created just as they were for the first two?
    5. What version of SharePoint are you using?

    Thanks

    Rob
