Reporting Services on SQL Server 2005

Hello everyone,

I have been installing SQL Server 2005 but the reporting services component is greyed (blocked) for ticking. I need the reporting services to be installed along side other components. What could be wrong with my operating system OR perhaps what do i need to install to enable the option.

Saheed.

SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services requires IIS server as this hosts the reports to the users.  However you can host the Reporting services on another server that is running IIS, moving it away from your database server.  This however has license implications as another processor license would be needed for SQL Server.

SQL Server 2008 runs a little different and I don't believe it is needed as it runs itself  Hope you find this useful

IIS has to be on the computer you are installing SSRS on.

I had a warning that IIS is not installed. Do you need to have IIS installed to enable the reporting services component option. I have a system with IIS but the Reporting services component cannot be ticked.

Did you make sure that the requirements are met such as having IIS installed on the server?  you may have had a warning during installation.
