Cant change production type of Item from BOM to Formula

Hi all,

Ax 2012, In Released product screen > Engineer tab > Production type field. When i change from BOM to Formula in this field, I get error: 'Production type cannot be changed to Formula when open production order lines exist.'

But, i check related production order, status = ended.

How can i fix this case? Please help me check and give me a advice?

Hi Dao,

If productions have already been recorded for this item wouldn't it be easier and better to create a new product?

Hi Ludwig;

Tks for your advice. But user really want to edit this item. Now I checked 1 production order related this item. Because this Production order (status=Report as finished) > Item cant change production type from BOM to Formula.

But, i cant end this related Production. I got this error 'The quantity cannot be reduced. The number of inventory transactions on order is too low because the quantity or part of it is referenced by an output order or a production order or is marked against other transactions.'. You know how to fix this error?

Hello Oanh Dao,

Do you have any sales order or production order linked to this production?

It seems that some or all of the items produced are in the process of being sold.

Can you check any pending inventory transaction for this item?

Hello Dr. Ludwig Reinhard,

I checked this Production order, which i cant end. I saw that a item has remaining quantity (1632 pcs) in BOM. And this total remaining quantity (1632 pcs) in inventory transactions is reserved physical. Is that the reason for this error?

And which way can I use to fix this?

Hello Dao,

I would highly recommend setting up a new item.

You already got into difficulties with this one and trying to flip the type might create additional subsequent issues e.g. when closing inventory, etc.

Please talk to your team and discuss whether the creation of a new item wouldn't be better.

Thanks you for your support. I will discuss with team about your recommend. But, I'm still confused and want to ask you 1 question:

You know field named 'Inventory number' link to which table? Related to reserved physical quantity of item in BOM of Production order, i checked and saw they related to Inventory reference named 'Prod picking list journal' and has Inventory number. Give me answer if you know. So many thanks!
