Open Excel and Word files in app instead of browser

On entities like Opportunity or Account, we are using the Documents tab to upload documents, and we have SharePoint integration enabled so these get stored in a SharePoint document library.

We have the SharePoint document library set up so that when an Excel or Word file is opened, it opens it in the Excel or Word app automatically, not the browser version.

Is there a way to have the same experience when clicking on the file in the Documents tab in Dynamics 365? It is always opening the file in the browser version of Word or Excel. Then we have to take the second step of tell it to open in the app, after it is already opened in the browser.

Yes, I had found that option and tried it but it does not have any effect in Dynamics 365. It still opens it in the browser.

In general, Excel Online is OK, but users need to Save As PDF and have the PDF file go into the same document library as the Excel file.

You cannot Save As in Excel Online and change the file format like you can in the desktop app.

You can print to PDF, but that file goes in the Downloads folder. Then the user has to move it to the document library in SharePoint - a lot of extra steps.

    Hi JoeyD,

There is no settings in CRM to achieve it.

Maybe you can try to refer following link to set it in office app:
