SQL 2005 SP1 is required

My client is still using SL7.0 FP1 with SQL Server 2008 R2. Last March we got the above error when trying create a new application database in Database Maintenance. We applied the available hotfix  (HF970678) and  were able to create the database.
Now eleven months later, we're getting the same message when we try to create yet another application database. I've verified that the hotfix is still there and (just to be sure) reapplied it to no avail.
We are planning an upgrade in the near future, but does anyone have any suggestions for the meantime? At this point, I'm considering applying SP4.but would like some assurance that the time would be well spent.
Thanks!

    Hello Stuart,

Environment team member did reply to my question regarding your issue

I’d say either set up a supported configuration and create them there and move them over, or upgrade.  I’ve run into that issue before and have not been able to work around it.

Since v7.0 is no longer supported, I would go for an upgrade. I honestly see no reason for them to stay on that version. I imagine you know that you can't get a hotfix anymore for any version 7 --most of the old KB's regarding 7 have been removed (unless the same issue exists in later versions)

    Best Regards,

    Jana MacDonald

    Hello,

I will inquire with a environment specialist.

You may just have to upgrade your client to a supported version unfortunately

RE: SQL 2005 SP1 is required

I was able to obtain the 7.0 SP3 HF 20440 which includes the build 7.03.40224.00 for the 9829000.exe file (thanks Brian), but it still does not resolve the issue.  I know it is resolved for SL 2011, but the client does not have access to that version.  What else can I do to create new 7.0 SP3 DB's?

This site has not been touched (by me) in years.  After years of no contact, they recently asked me to add some new DBs.

They are on 7.0 SP3, and the 9829000.exe file version is 7.04.40409.00 dated 4/9/2010. Dynamics SL also crashes when opening, so I don't know if anything else there is causing a problem.

You might check the files changed and ensure that you have ran the sql scripts , if you are using the same version of SL on your new db then Id assume you are accessing the correct executables

    Dear Stuart,

I'd need to research it, but Microsoft  Support Information ---A fix is scheduled to be included with Microsoft Dynamics SL 8.0.

Does not appear I can send you a PM from your profile, so I sent you a friend request with a message.  Thanks.

Send me a private message with an email address, or any method you prefer to get a copy of that hotfix to you.

I used to be surprised running across client setups on SL7, but I recently worked with one client running SL5.5 on a WIN2003 server. (Yes, they are moving off of that platform).

    Brian,

Running into this similar issue at a site running SL 7.0SP3.  The link to the HF on PartnerSource is broken, can you send me the downloaded HF package?  Thanks.

RE: SQL 2005 SP1 is required

I agree with your analysis, the problem is likely the SQL installation. To create a new SL7 database you could spin up a new temporary VM with a lower SQL build number, create a new empty DB from the current SL installation, and follow steps to move it and merge with the existing SQL installation. SQL will handle updating the new DB internally when you attach or restore it, and this approach avoids troubleshooting the initial DB creation problem. Additional work for only one database, so the client should evaluate whether extra time spent now was better than waiting until after their SL version upgrade.
