SQL 2005 SP1 is required

My client is still using SL7.0 FP1 with SQL Server 2008 R2. Last March we got the above error when trying create a new application database in Database Maintenance. We applied the available hotfix  (HF970678) and  were able to create the database.
Now eleven months later, we're getting the same message when we try to create yet another application database. I've verified that the hotfix is still there and (just to be sure) reapplied it to no avail.
We are planning an upgrade in the near future, but does anyone have any suggestions for the meantime? At this point, I'm considering applying SP4.but would like some assurance that the time would be well spent.
Thanks!

    Good Day Stuart,

Thank you for  posting your issue on the forum.

I see from your post that you have already verified the hot fix is still in place. Please verify the screen version of the 9829000.exe. In case another update was applied after HF970678 may have caused the screen to no longer have the fix needed to move past this message.

I suspect the version of this file you currently have is newer then the one trying to apply from the hot fix. Without providing support or testing, your best option might be to upgrade your SL 7.0 to the latest service pack. The service pack would have the hot fixes rolled into it. Since I do not know your actual SL 7.0 FP1  version or if there are any other hot fix and updates applied, the service packs that would have this fix included would be SP3 and SP4.

I am sorry to not be of more help.

Good afternoon, Carolyn. We have applied SP4 to the SL7.0FP1 installation and continue to get the error that SQL2005 SP1 is required. The problem now is that the application won't run until the Databases are upgraded. Any suggestions? The quicker the better.

I have a copy of Correction for Bug 20440, released 2/24/2010. The hotfix contains one file, 9829000.exe, which is what you need to get past the database creation error in SL7. You can backup a copy of the current DB Maintenance program 98.290 before replacing it with the working copy.

Send me a private message with your email address, and I will send you a copy of the file.

I've already applied one such hot fix, but I'm willing to see if yours is different. I tried to send you a PM but your ID doesn't appear.

Stuart - The version is 7.03.40224.00, it includes a hotfix rollup for 3 bugs. It was released after sp1, but it should fix your DB creation problem. You can install this build, use it to create a database, then restore your current copy of this program.

    Bug 20440 Description

SY – Reduced the amount of time it takes to create a new application database when there is a large amount of already existing application databases.

    Bug 19552 Description

SY – The Upgrade Scenario in Database Maintenance (98.290.00) rebuilds the views for every application database that is selected to be updated each time it processes a single database.

    Bug 18859 Description

SY – Unable to connect to Microsoft SQL Server 2008 from Database Maintenance (98.290.00) after applying Cumulative Update 3 for Microsoft SQL Server 2008.

Good morning, Brian. This is the hotfix that I applied earlier.  It worked great when I applied it originally, but is not working now. I tried reapplying it in case something caused it to corrupt, but it didn't make a difference. My best guess at this point is that some subsequent update to SQL is causing the problem.

I agree with your analysis, the problem is likely the SQL installation. To create a new SL7 database you could spin up a new temporary VM with a lower SQL build number, create a new empty DB from the current SL installation, and follow steps to move it and merge with the existing SQL installation. SQL will handle updating the new DB internally when you attach or restore it, and this approach avoids troubleshooting the initial DB creation problem. Additional work for only one database, so the client should evaluate whether extra time spent now was better than waiting until after their SL version upgrade.

    Brian,

Running into this similar issue at a site running SL 7.0SP3.  The link to the HF on PartnerSource is broken, can you send me the downloaded HF package?  Thanks.

Send me a private message with an email address, or any method you prefer to get a copy of that hotfix to you.

I used to be surprised running across client setups on SL7, but I recently worked with one client running SL5.5 on a WIN2003 server. (Yes, they are moving off of that platform).

Does not appear I can send you a PM from your profile, so I sent you a friend request with a message.  Thanks.
