GP gives IE script error on home page.

From time to time I'll get a user that will get an IE script error upon entering the home screen of GP, and they'll be asked if they want to continue running scripts on that page.  Sometimes I can clear it by deleting their Temp file, but that doesn't always work.  I've read, and tried installing Office 2003 components, but no luck their either.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

    Hi Todd,

Have you tried to install OWC from Office XP first and then Office 2003... they are both required in the proper sequence. Everything above O2k3 doesn't come with OWC anymore.

    Good luck,

Thanks, Bucher.  We're in a terminal server environment, and I had tried that in the past without success.  I did finally get it to clear by logging in as the user, logging into GP, experiencing the error, then logging back out of GP, then clearning the contents of their temp file, then logging out of TS, log back into TS and finally back into GP.  I tried numerous times to clear it by deleting that temp file, but only if I did things in this sequence was I able to actually clear the error.

    Todd,

Do you really need that portion of the HTLM display for the metrics ? Most people don't use them and disable them actually. This way I think you would get rid of the error message.

Btw, you didn't mention that you were on TS and in a shared environment... Sometimes GP tends to react a little different as opposed to be installed in a dedicated client location.

    good luck

    Todd,

There are several causes and resolutions for IE script errors. Here is normally what we send out to customers for cases:

There can be several causes for script errors that occur on the Home Page such as user permissions, missing or corrupt Office Web Components, or from the UserData folder missing due to user folder redirection or another means. Please try the suggestions below to see if we can get the issue resolved and determine what is causing them to occur. The most common cause is that the UserData folder is missing so I would like to start with this first.

    A. Missing User Data folder

    1. Log out of GP on the users workstation.

    2. Navigate to the following location for your user. Click Start->Run and type in the following and hit enter.:

    %appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\

    3. Verify if the UserData folder exists here.

3a. If it doesn't, creat a folder and named it ‘UserData’

3b. The UserData folder is a system folder and if you do not have your folder properties set to show system operating files, it will disappear. Also since the file is hidden by default, creating the UserData folder will cause an error stating that the folder already exists. This is fine and will verify that the folder is there so you don't have to unhide protected OS files.

    4. Log back into Dynamics GP and verify that the issue no longer occurs.

    B. User Permissions

    1. Please verify that the user has full control to the following paths.

    A. The GP Code Folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP).

    B. The user's Temp Folder.

    i. This can be accessed by going to: Start | Run and entering %temp%

    2. Any shared locations for Reports, Forms, or Dictionaries.

    C. Missing or corrupt Office Web Components.

I've included the links to download the different versions of the Office Web Components depending on the version of Office you have installed. If you have already installed the Office Web Components please try to run a repair on the installs. This will resolve any issues with the installs.

If you use the 2007 Office programs, you must install the Office Web Components for Office 2003. If you use Office 2000, you must install the Office Web Components for Office XP. For Office 2010 the same installs can be used as if running Office 2007.

    A. To obtain the Office Web Components for Office 2007, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

    www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

Note The Office Web Components for Office 2007 are a service pack for the Office Web Components for Office 2003. You must install Office Web Components for Office 2003 before you install this service pack.

    B. To obtain the Office Web Components for Office 2003, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

    www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

    C. To obtain the Office Web Components for Office XP, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

    www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

Note If you download one set of the Web components and you still receive this error message, download and install both sets of the Web components on the same system.

    D. Users Temporary Internet Files

I would like to have you delete the Temporary internet files for the user. This can be done with the following steps.

    1. Go to Control Panel > Internet Options

    2. Click on the General tab and click on the Delete button in the Browsing History section

    3. Place checkmarks beside Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and History is not already checked and then click Delete.

    4. In the General tab, click on Settings and choose Every Time I visit the Web Page in the Check for newer versions of stored pages section.

If those don't help I would recommend opening up a support case so we can stream in.

    Thanks,

    Jonathan

    Jonathan,

I am having the same issue and was able to fix it by adding the userdata folder as directed above.  Why would that folder not be in the location %appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\  for all users.

We have the same issue on RDS (Terminal Server) running windows server 2008 R2 64bit. I found that the issue was related to the registry. I downloaded the Process Monitor (formally regmon) and followed the issue looking for “access denied” results. I finally found that the key for the Web Component was corrupt (or users didn’t have permissions to it). Even the administrator account didn’t have permissions to that key.  I changed the permissions on the key and everything worked fine.

We are also facing similar problem; but the situation seems to be quite weird. We are multiple users accessing to  5 different companies sharing the same Terminal Service session. The funny thing is the same user when login to company A do not encounter the script error but the same user when login to company B encounter the script error. Based on all the information in this forum, it is either related to the user temp file or the office components; but i believe the same user on the same Terminal service session will encounter the same problem regardless of what company login? But, now is only for 1 specific company.

Any clue where is the problem?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Jonathan,

Thank you for your detailed answer.

I have followed all of you steps, but still cannot make the Metrics appear. I have elimiated the first error message, and the Metrics area now displays Microsoft Web Companents as a message. This then shows a message of: Object doesn't support property or method "BeginUndo'  and the temp folder location.

I can see the temp file in the temp folder so it appears the user can create the file ( I am logged on as Administrator)

This P.C. has the following environment:

    Environment:

    Windows 7 Pro SP1 (64 bit)

    GP 11.00.1752

    Office 2010 v14.0.7106.5003 (32 bit)

    IE 10.0.9299.16721 (10.0.10 (KB2879017)

Any futher help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Are you sure it is not hidden? Its hard to say why it is not there as it is something specific to the environment but it does need to be there.

    Hi Geoff,

I would recommend you open a support case at this point as we would need to look at a Process Monitor to see what is going on.
