Landing page with Unified Interface

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We upgraded to the Unified Interface this weekend.

Upon login, users are seeing the apps page:

They want to land on the dashboard, as they did pre-UI.  What needs to change and how?

    Hello Andy,

You can select what apps are available for users by following instructions provided here:

    security roles: docs.microsoft.com/.../manage-access-apps-security-roles

Also, please check this to understand hoy to setup a default app per user: community.dynamics.com/.../d365-how-to-set-default-app-to-show-after-login

    Hi Andy,

Please refer to this docs page to associate apps with security roles: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customerengagement/on-premises/customize/manage-access-apps-security-roles

    Thank you.  Much appreciated.

Can you point me to a document that explains how to set users to have access to only the one app?  I'm finding several that address how to set personal preferences... but that's not what I want.

    Good point.

Indeed if you use the xxx.crm.dynamics.com/main.aspx?forceUCI=1&pagetype=apps URL, then it will display the list of apps, and this is by design.

I however expect this page to redirect users to the only app they have access to if you've made sure that they could only access one.

Maybe it's how I log in.

I access Dynamics by typing the url into Chrome's address bar.  I type the first two letters and Chrome remembers the url, so I just push 'enter'.   This url has the "pagetype=apps" string at the end.   If I were to sign off and then login again to Dynamics without closing the window... NOW it will remember the last app that I used and take me to the dashboard.

Most users will access Dynamics the way I do - and get the Apps page.  I need the url to take me to the dashboard.

I don't find this "last app used" functionality happening.

When I log on, I get the "My Apps" page.  (The url ends with "forceUCI=1&pagetype=apps"... I assume that's why I land there).

I choose Sales Hub and go on my merry way.   On the next login, I expect the "last app used" will bypass the "My Apps" page and land me in Sales Hub, but I still get the same "My Apps".  I don't want users choosing the wrong app... I want them to always go to Sales Hub.

RE: Landing page with Unified Interface

    Hi Andy,

There are a few ways to achieve that result, and this recently got improved:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform-release-plan/2020wave1/microsoft-powerapps/improvements-model-driven-app

Model-driven apps have been updated to remember the last app used thereby reducing the need to choose one in the apps list. The last app will be used if an app isn't specified in the URL.
For example, use of the last app can happen when opening the organization URL or when opening a generated URL to a specific entity record.
The first time opening the URL without specifying an app will still prompt the user, but subsequent opens will use the last app if an app has not been provided. If a user has only one app then that app becomes the last app, which results in no user prompt. This will improve user productivity by removing clicks when getting started with a session.

Another way to achieve this is by making sure users have access to only one app with their security role (you can associate apps and security roles), and that the "Unified Interface Only" mode is enabled.
That way they automatically get redirected to the one app they have access to.
