Finance and Supply Chain Management (SCM)

Good Morning/Afternoon and Happy New Year! I was hoping to get simplified clarity on the following question and confirmation on my simplified answer to a team member. Always good to get a 2nd opinion right :) ?

  • What can you do with the SCM?
  • Can you have the SCM without Finance?

It is my understanding, very simplified, is Finance provides the Sales and Purchasing Options, and Supply Chain Management adds the Warehouse capabilities.

Thanks in advance for shared feedback on these 2 modules.

Have a great day!

    Hello AndreaSmiley,

    For Q1:

SCM can do a lot of things. I think there is not sufficient space her to detail everything. Therefore, I would recommend having a look at this site: docs.microsoft.com/.../

    For Q2:

To my knowledge not at the moment. There are some licensing issues to consider for users that use 'finance' only and those that use both finance and SCM. Please have a look at the licensing guide for more information. mbs.microsoft.com/.../Dynamics365LicensingGuide.pdf

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Andrea,

You can run SCM without Finance. The sales, purchase and warehouse features are part of SCM.

The accounting part for customers and vendors are part of Finance.

Thank you - exactly what I was looking for.

Why would you run SCM then without Finance if customer and vendor setups are within Finance - or can you use them in SCM just would not then flow through financials - which still to me would not make much sense.

    Hi Andrea,

Customer and vendors are shared between the two license types. I haven't tested all details for using only Finance or only SCM myself.

I have spoken with a prospect in the past who was at that time only interested in the SCM features mainly for maintaining their product master data. This is for sure a typical scenario where you don't need Finance.
