Business Rule to lock Lead Source field

(0) ShareShare

Hi, here is a scenario I need suggestions for:
Lots of times Salespeople will put in their own lead source when it is really coming from marketing.  Thus any time Marketing enters a lead source, they want it locked for salespeople.  There are 3 users in Marketing.

I want to achieve this using a Business Rule, ideally.  So, when a Lead is 'Created By' one of these 3 users, the Lead Source is locked after creating and setting the Lead Source.  But it needs to be able to be set by the 3 users first.
I tried a few different ways setting the business rule on Created By for the 3 users but am stuck.

Any ideas on how to achieve the above?

    Hi

This is difficult to do an create as there will be no created on at the point the rules triggers

I would do this as a worflow on save

If Lead is created by "Team Name"

    Lock Field "Lead Source"

This should stop anyone changing it after the fact

Thanks for the response.  How can I lock a field with a real-time workflow?  There is no step that locks a field via workflow.

You cannot lock a field using WF directly.

    Try this solution:

Create a custom field in the Lead form "Created by Marketing" and field data type should be "Two Options", default value should be 'No' and enable this field for Field Security.

Create a Field Security Profile and assign 3 marketing users the Read, Update, Create permission.

Create Biz Rule, if "Created by Marketing = Yes then lock Lead Source"

This way Sales people cannot override the Lead Source as Created by Marketing field is not accessible.

    Hi

You would add a new field to the form called Lock Lead Source (Make it yes/no) Use the workflow to update this if it meets your team requirements and then use the Business Rule to say if it = yes then lock the field
