Microsoft Dynamics SL (Archived)

Brand new to Dynamics SL 7.0

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I Just inherited a Dynamics SL 7.0  (7.05.50502.00) environment.

I'm a DBA.   Please, don't run off in terror,  i understand more than just plan caches.

I'm also their (surprise!) application support.

They are running the app locally on their desktops, there are 4 users, against a underutilized app and db server.

When they do things in the app, they'll see slowness.

Tabbing out of the 'Amount' field in the Voucher and Adjustment Screen.

Printing checks totally locks up the PC til its done and runs for 15 to 30 minutes to process a few dozen.

They are on SP4 for dynamics as well.  i do not know how/if they are running any patches or CU's after SP4.

What i'm hoping to find out (beyond, the fact its OLD) is how to support it better and maybe give them some fixes for speed?     They aren't new issues either.   I'm the new guy that they passed the issues, and since this isn't my first rodeo, i asked how long has this been happening.

Thanks all, and Hi.

One other thing I don't see mentioned here, but is worth noting...  SL 7 came off of Microsoft SLC product support in July of 2013.  After talking with your mgmt and VAR, you may want to consider upgrading to at least 2011, though 2015 is now available.

While everyone is throwing their 2 cents worth, here is something I found that helped.  If your server is an SBS server and SBS Monitoring is enabled then it is also competing with SL for SQL Server processing.  Not only does SBS Monitoring compete for CPU cycles but it also competes for memory.  I found that, if you do not really need it, disable SBS monitoring and performance usually gets better and you actually have some free memory to allocate to applications (yes, SQL Server will take all the memory it can find for caching but, with SBS monitoring enabled, it seems to be resistant to releasing any memory so that applications have some).

May have missed, but, I didn't see anyone mention that SQL Server is memory hog!  As a DBA you probably know that if you don't specific how much memory it can use, it will, sometime not so, slowly gobble up available memory and not release it until you restart the server.

    Hi,

There are no future periods in CashAvgD or CashSumD.  but there are 34500 records in CashSumD, dating back to 200701 and 4100 records in CashAvgD dating back to 200701

Hi ramblemn   do you have a cash manager module?

Check the cashsumd y cachavgd tables orer by period and check thant you dont have a future period on the database.

If you have this is the problem... tell me if you have transaction on future period.

CustomerSource is the MS website that allows Dynamics Customers access to software updates, the knowledgebase, etc.  Lots of info.  Your Reseller should be able to tell you who is set up as an administrator for your company, who can then add you.  Or the reseller can add you themselves.  Partnersource is the same thing for Dynamics Resellers but with info about our customers.

    Hi,

we tried printing to a file,  was just as slow.  in fact, they do that regularly, and then manually print the file (they like to have a copy)

What is the CustomerSource, PartnerSource stuff.   I'm not aware of any of the clubs just yet.

I can't download the template as i don't have the right account.
