In the Bill of Materials (BOM) form, there are measurement fields (such as length, width, height, etc.) available. I would like to understand the following:
What is the intended use of these measurement fields on the BOM line?
How are these measurement values utilized in BOM calculations or production processes?
I have already defined physical dimensions (length, width, height, etc.) under the Manage inventory section of the item master. However, I noticed that these values are not automatically fetched or reflected on the BOM line.
Is this the expected system behavior?
If yes, what is the rationale behind this design?
If not, is there any configuration required to enable the auto-population of measurement values from the item master to the BOM?
Please clarify how these measurement fields are intended to be used and whether there is any link between the item master physical dimensions and the BOM measurements.
Basically, it is used to calculate consumption. F.e. there is a functionality to calculate scrap that occurs during the production process. So, in order to know how much peaces, length or whatever you need of that BOM component to produce a given (sub) component, you need to put in the measurement. The width could be wider then the product produced as some scrap is generated.
The measurement on the product master is really what comes out of the production process and is used to evaluate where it can be stored in the warehouse\licence plate, just as an example, its not limited to that.
