Create custom fields in another language

Hello,

Our Sales team has asked to have Dynamics 365 in Italian. We changed the environment language to italian and everything seemed to be ok. Now we need to create some custom fields but when we go to Settings->Custoimization the option "Customize the system" do not appear, instead we have a warning saying (in Italian of course) "The solution and publisher options are not available because the language does not match the base language of the system.".

Does that mean that we can create custom fields only if the Dynamics 365 language is English?

Thank you all in advance

    Hi,

    Thank you for your query.

That is correct, all the schema changes/customizations should be done in English (or base lanugage).

After defining the fields in English, you can Export and Import translations (in Italian).

So, here are the high level steps are:

    • Create a solution and add your components here (Entities/Forms/Fields).
    • After adding the fields, click on Export Translations (in the solution window).
    • This should download a zip file, extract the zip file and Open Translation excel file.
    • Update the translations.
    • Re-Pack (Zip) the files.
    • Click on Import Translations in the solution and choose the updated zipped package.
    • Publish All Customizations.

There are community tools also available for this purpose:

Here are the official docs for your reference:

    A nice article on translations:

Please note, the translation file contains the Labels for Entity Name, Fields and Option Set Values.

    Hi,

Please refer to the documentation: "Because customization is supported only in the base language, as the System Customizer you may be working with the base language set as your language preference. To verify that the translated text is appearing, you must change your language preference for the Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (on-premises) user interface. To perform additional customization work, you must change back to the base language."

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customerengagement/on-premises/customize/enable-additional-languages

You need to set the user interface languge to your base language in the personnal settings:
