Hi,
I am trying to understand the "Entity Owner" concept where Organization and user/team owned are given at the entity level where does business owned comes to help.
- we known that user/team are comes under Business unity(security roles also) how can u say a record are a entity is under are owned by the Business unity.
- Is it possible to say that record/Entity is owned by the user/team level is also owned by the business level
how does this work?please light some clarity on this?
thanks & regards..

Hey Aric:) If you look at that link above.. which learn crazy provided.. now I am wondering what is that Business Owned? It's right there in the ownership table. First time I see it at all:)
ok thanks all for ur time & help..
Try to see away of the terminology business owned as Alex mentioned. It is user/team owned or organization owned.
When it is organization owned your rights to the data are always Yes/No.
When it is user/team owned your rights can be based on ownership level User/Business Unit/Parent-Child Business Unit or Organization:
In the example of Read Permission on the Account Entity:
User - Can Read all records owned by myself.
Business Unit - Can Read all records owned by myself or other users within my business unit.
Parent Child Business Unit - Same as Business Unit, but also any child Business Units
Organization - Can Read all records in the system.
Hope this helps.
Ya it is confusing can't get better insight on this,
so how can i conclude on the business owned .Is it just kind of a internal reference when security roles comes into play to give privileges for the user.
For me how i see this as , organisation have root BU-->which have multiple BU ,with each BU have different level of security roles option-->which user/team use this security role to access the Entity record.
Ok, I see.. this is, at least, confusing:)) At the very least, you cannot create a custom entity which is business owned.. and I would have a hard time finding an out of the box entity like that..
I have followed below msdn site which gave me the ownership level ..
You need to stick to the Dynamics terminology.. there are no business owned entities. There are user/team owned entities, and there are organization owned entities. Just to clarify, though.. if you have an entity called Account, and if it's set up to be team/user owned, then all account records will have a user/team owner. You can't have some accounts owned by the organization, and others by teams or users.
Depending on the ownership type, you can configure security roles. If an entity is organization owned, you can give all or nothing type of access. If an entity is user/team owned, you have more granularity, so you can say that a user will have access to the records owned by that user, or to the records owned by any user from the same bu..etc
Thanks Shlega, well that make sense
Even though we have user/team they have to be given any roles which bring them to Business owned right?
which gives organisation level<-->business level<-->user/team(security level)<-->Entities ,all interlinked
Entities can be set up to be owned by users/teams or by the organization(but it can't be both for the same entity). They are not, technically, owned by the business units. However, since every user/team belongs to a specific bu, if a record is assigned to a specific user/team, it sort of belongs to the corresponding bu. You cannot assign a record to a business unit , though, you can only assign it to a team or to a user.
That's where security roles come into play. If a use has a role that allows bu-level read, such user can read all records in that user's bu.
Organization owned entities don't care about that bu part - security for those entities is, basically, all or nothing(still separately for read, write, etc)
