CRM 2013 - Current key (KeyType: CrmWRPCTokenKey) is expired

The issue is that when some users (but not all) go to the Notes field for an entity and click on an attachment they are getting an “Invalid Action” error.  On the server in the event log I can see this:

 Current key (KeyType : CrmWRPCTokenKey) is expired.  This can indicate that a key is not being regenerated correctly.  Current Key : CrmKey(Id:37719d0a-6012-e511-942a-005056b23967, ScaleGroupId:00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000, KeyType:CrmWRPCTokenKey, Expired:True, ValidOn:06/14/2015 06:39:01, ExpiresOn:07/17/2015 06:39:01, CreatedOn:06/14/2015 06:39:01, CreatedBy:XXXX\XXXXXX.

It seems to happen for most users but not all.  The issue was happening for my user but then started to work after an iisreset, but other users are still having the issue.

Things I have tried so far are:

  1. Restarting Microsoft Dynamics CRM Asynchronous Processing Service
  2. Restarting Microsoft Dynamics CRM Asynchronous Processing Service (maintenance)
  3. Run Microsoft.Crm.Tools.WRPCKeyRenewal.exe /R
  4. IISRESET
  5. Reboot the CRM server (but not the database server).

Do you have any suggestions?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The implementation guide says: “By default, key regeneration occurs every 24 hours” so the bigger question is why isn’t this happening and if it was working why has it stopped.

It seems like the license key is expired, if you are using the trail keys then you have to upgrade them to your company purchased license keys from CRM Deployment Manager. You can also try restarting the IIS Service (in Command prompt type iisreset and hit enter)

The above steps were what I need to do to fix the issue.  But there was also an extra step of clearing the browser cache.  In fact I had to open the developer toolbar in IE for each user, and force the crm site to be fully downloaded from the server.  Once that happened the issue was resolved.

Did this issue reappear for you?

I'm seeing this happen every month it seems (in 2015 version), and we find that we must instruct all users to clear cache, as you have discovered as well.
