RMS 2.0 Backup error using SQL 2012

Hi guys,

Help! One of our partners have come across a problem with SQL 2012 and RMS 2.0 in terms of backing up database. RMS works fine with SQL 2012 but when they tryied to take a backup they encountered the error. They have also created a sample database which has been created and restored properly, but when it comes to taking a backup it gives error.

Can anyone please tell me what's causing this bug? and what would be the work around solution for this. I have reviewed the database requirements of RMS 2.0 and it says that it works on SQL 2012.

Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

    Hi everyone,

    Sorry for the delay.

If you have not already resolved this error I would recommend installing hotfix 60 (build 2.0.2022):

    mbs.microsoft.com/.../20SPHF-V2

This hotfix includes a fix for the following:

The following error occurs when trying to backup an RMS 2.0 database on Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 when using SQL 2012 R2:

Backup failed for server 'server name'.

    Hopefully this helps.

A common problem I see with this is permissions to the backup destination folder. The account backing up is whatever the SQL service is running as, not the logged in user initiating the backup.

One thing you can try is directing the backup inside the SQL folder under program files, the location can vary by architecture but generally something like this:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Backup

The SQL service account should have access to that folder if it exists, so try placing the backup there. If that succeeds then duplicate the permissions to the backup destination folder.

    Hi, Gene.

    I have same problem.

    Did you ever get resolution?
