License for system administrator security role

Which license is required for a user who has the /system administrator/ role in D365FO?

It says /Operations/, but as far as I know that could be any base license? Which one is required?

I can't find a passage in the license guide to confirm, but my understanding is System administrator in FO requires one of Finance or SCM licenses.

Hi,
The D365FO license types available were hierarchy based (from highest to lowest):

Operations (will be listed as Enterprise in AOT)

Activity

Team Members (will be listed as Universal in AOT)

And you could report on the licensing either from:

The user interface in the View Permissions area of System Administration -> Security Configuration

From the ‘View Related Objects and Licenses for All Roles’ report in the AOT.

The Operations license value indicates that a full user license for finance and operations apps is required or compliant.

Hi Gaute,

After a chat we (Alex Meyer and me) had a chat with Microsoft about this topic, the system administrator requires one of the full user licenses. You can choose between e.g. Finance, SCM, or Commerce. In case you are using HR only, then the HR SKU can be used.

In the MS Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide October 2023 it says that an Admin does not require any license to configure and administer?

Is the wording wrong here then?
