Dynamically populating Sharepoint images into a Dynamics word template

Hey everyone,

I have a business requirement where I have built a word template that pulls data from the Case record. I also need to populate the template with any images that are associated to the Case record. The client gets emails from the customer and Dynamics displays those emails on the Case record under the timeline. Some of those emails may have images associated to them. Here is what I need to do:

  1. Find a way to automatically grab those images that are associated to an email activity, and save them to the SharePoint location for that Case record (we cannot use Power Automate unfortunately)
  2. Once the client generates the Word Document Template, any images in the SharePoint location for that Case record need to dynamically populate just like the data in the Case record fields

I've built out the template and it works as expected but these two items are stumping me. I would appreciate any advice or if anyone can point me in the right direction!

Thanks!

    Hi Ras13j,

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, till some extend you can do it e.g. storing email attachments in SharePoint library and generating simple Word document through Power Automate. you can refer the links

    https://www.cloudfronts.com/move-attachments-from-tracked-email-to-sharepoint-using-microsoft-flow/

    https://blog.encodian.com/2020/05/populate-a-word-or-pdf-document-using-power-automate/

    https://www.bythedevs.com/post/how-to-populate-word-template-with-rich-text-image-repeating-content-control-using-ms-flow

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyDU9bxA0L0

But if you have comprehensive requirements on document generation, e.g. rich dynamic content, special control formatting, repeating elements, then such requirements wouldn't be achievable through OOB Word template you can consider Document Core Pack, Xpert Doc or Doc42 in this scenario

let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Adnan

    Hi Adnan,

Thank you for your answer. If we are able to use Power Automate will that also allow us to pull images stored in SharePoint and populate that into the Dynamics Word Template for that Case? That is the main requirement that the client wants. Or are you saying that can only be done using these add ons?

    Thanks!

    Hi Ras13j,

If you can not use Power Automate to extract the attachments from email to upload in SharePoint library and facing limitation in generating word document with dynamic content (images etc.), then you can look into 3rd party solutions of MSCRM Addons. You can refer the  https://www.mscrm-addons.com/Products/AttachmentExtractor & https://www.mscrm-addons.com/Products/DocumentsCorePack

Hopefully your business requirements can easily be mapped.

Let me know if you have questions.

    Thanks,

    Adnan

    Hi Ras13j,

Unfortunately, you may not upload picture and insert picture to word automatically if you don’t use power automate.
