What am I supposed to put into the "Topic" database field when I am on the Leads View page.  I don't find anything about it.  Do I put the product name that I am selling the customer or what???  It wont let me save the page without placing something in the field

Thanks

    Hi Smrz,

Yes, it is mandatory by default, and looks good if you fill this field, but you can change to Optional, instead, make the Name as required field.

It is actually up to you, you can fill by product name or just say "I just meet this guy in the seminar", "Potential Prospect interested about Product A, B, C", etc, but the data sample in CRM shows these examples:

Interested in our newer offerings (sample)

Store is expanding - send new literature (sample)

Interested in online only store (sample)

Mailed an interest card back  (sample)

And based on the description in CRM field:

Topic is: "Type a subject or descriptive name, such as the expected order, company name, or marketing source list, to identify the lead."

    Hope this helps!

    Thank you.

    Hi,

Lead Topic field helps distinguish leads that come from different contacts from same company. The field could specify how you want to categories it or from where it come from so on.

If you do not want users to fill out the topic field, you can have it filled out automatically by concatenating other fields on the Lead record

    e.g.:

    1. Topic: Contoso interested on 50x Lumia 625 phones
    2. Topic: 10x MSCRM Online CAL – September Sale Campaign - Contoso

    Happy CRM!

    Hi,

The "Topic Field" on Lead tells you exactly what is all about this new enquiry even in case of getting multiple enquiry from the same company. So that you can easily find or search based on topic .

E.g: 1) Interested in our New offering

          2) New Support opportunity

    Hope this helps.

We usually recommend to clients that they put a short descriptor about the what is driving the lead: interested in our product a, wants to become a partner, dropped bus card in fishbowl at xyz trade show, or other lead source.
