How to confirm if field indexing in Dataverse/D365 CRM is completed?

Hi Everyone,

I’m facing some performance challenges in my code while retrieving data using FetchXML from Dataverse. During my R&D, I observed that for some fields the retrieve responses are very fast, while for others they are noticeably slow.

After investigating further, I found that this difference seems to be related to indexing—fields that are indexed (either by Microsoft or by being added to Dataverse Search) return results much faster. Because of this, I added one of the fields (which I’m retrieving and performing operations on) to Dataverse Search to take advantage of indexing.

However, I’m not sure whether the indexing process for that field has been fully completed, since the response times are still the same. I also checked the official documentation but couldn’t find a way to confirm the indexing progress or status.
My Question:
Is there any place in Dataverse/D365 CRM where I can monitor or confirm:

  • If indexing for a field is still in progress, or
  • How much of the indexing has been completed?

Also, is my observation correct that the faster results I’m seeing are indeed because of indexing? Or is there something else I might be missing? If so, I’d really appreciate some guidance in the right direction.

Any insights, guidance, or best practices would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance!
Sheldon
