account categories

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

According to the GP-user guide,  you can add unlimited account categories if your business has specialized reporting needs, but the numeric field in the GL00102 table has 2 digits. I need more than 99 categories in MR, because the range of the GL-account numbers cannot be used. Any option ?????

    RE: account categories

Unfortunately I have nothing on the account categories. Our company has setup the categories to roll up into our audited statements so I do not have control over them

If you cannot see the option to filter on the user defined fields, go into GP account maintenance card and modify an account. Set the user defined fields 1 through 4 to "TEST" and save. Restart MR and see if the columns appear to filter on the user defined fields. Mine appear to the right of the account category column.

If you still do not see anything, I believe in older versions of MR, you had the option to select whether or not you wanted the ability to user the user defined fields during the setup of MR (Screenshot of the install window msdynamicsgptips.files.wordpress.com/.../addtioanlsetting.jpg)

As a side note, you are on CU7, I highly recommend upgrading to the latest CU. There have been many bug and performance issues fixed since CU7 (I used to have a large report that would take 8 minutes to run that now takes 40 seconds). Also, Excel page output settings can be set back to Normal vs Page Outline etc.

    James!

    Thanks for the tip!

Where can I select the user defined fields in MR row definitions? (MR2012 V 2.1.7044.43)

Do you have an answer about the digits for the account categories?

    RE: account categories

We use a combination of the 4 user defined fields which you can filter on in MR alongside of the account categories. Since the user defined fields are essentially a string you can group accounts however you see fit.

e.g. In the user defined 1 field we put items such as "Admin","Office","Courier" and in user defined 2 field we put "Revenue", "Cost" etc. This allows us to filter at different levels.

If you cannot see the user defined fields in MR, you have to edit at least one account with text within each field (i.e. Test1, test2, test3, test4) and then restart MR. If you are using datamart, you may need to refresh it to pull the fields properly.
