I agree that the first place, to start looking is Dex.log and SQL profile trace but this issue is like a viral and switches from one User to another and then most of the times, it is never consistent to isolate and then have that specific User log into a seperate machine to watch application's behavior. the issue is also never predicted when it is going to occur.

While I was doing doing my digging I have found one (window, form or table) which is always at the top of process monitor, not finishing and not letting any other process to make the quesue availalbe while that is a customised report.

So I am working with the ISV and once I found ( if I found) something, will surely share with  the group

Thanks jonathan! that is already doing something on the forums for me. I am not at all well versed in SQL, so just mentioning those things about logs is helpful to me =).  what i needed help with was troubleshooting, so thanks! this gives me some more to work with.

    Hey Guys,

The best thing to do with these type of issues is starting collecting log files. Get a Dexsql.log or SQL profile trace and see what is happening behind the scenes. There isn't much we can do on the forums for these because each issue can be unique. I would recommend gathering log files and if you need help open a support case.

    Thanks!

oh and i forgot to mention. i suspected his PC at first because it was old and underpowered, but it has been replaced with a shiny new one that has plenty of resources for GP. the issue persists =(.

hi, and thanks for the speedy reply! there are a bunch of queued tasks, yes, but its really only like 4 of them, repeated over and over.   I think it is probably something to do with smartlists or something because I have not added any 3rd party modules since Jan, but this problem came up recently. I will look into it further and see if i can find out what is queuing those processes. thanks again!

    Hi Jon,

Have you been able to validate if there were a lots of running (queued) tasks in the Process Monitor in GP ? If so, then I would suggest to try to figure out what module is the origine of all those tasks and try to remove that from this particular user's startup file DYNAMICS.SET... Eliminating the 3rd party modules is one starting point when trying to get to the root of such issues. Begin with a clear startup file from a client that works fine and then see if you can pinpoint how many modules were added on the not-to-well working PC.

If your issue does not seem to come from the queued tasks, then it might be something else... Have you tried to narrow down which processes are using up the most CPU and RAM on that system ?  go and get the Process Explorer from Microsoft (free and 100 times better than the task manager)... It will help you identify if you have some apps in the system that are playing fool... sometime it could just be an Anti-virus or a Malware...

    Good luck

We are also having this issue, but with just one user.  We dont have a bunch of 3rd party software running, but he can not work in GP for more than about 3 hours or so before he gets all kinds of stuck processes.  I thought he had a slow PC so i upgraded it but the problem persists. very frustrating.  how can I help troubleshoot this?

    Hi Beat,

You guess is 400% correct, we have fw 3rd party plus home grown application and yes those are creating lot processing in the back groud.

We con't be able to disable those but atleast now have kind of feeling what could cause the issue and obviously there will be no easy solution

Answer to Jonthan, it is occuring few time a day and especially with SOP Users.

    Hi Zack,

Do you use any third party application in GP that is generating a lot of processes repeatedly ? For example I've seen batch processes stuck in the Process Monitor because of hundreds of entries generated by another tools that was monitoring some login activities in the system... disabling the 3rd party solved the problem.

I think the bigger question is this happening often? If so we really need to look at why this continually is happening. If this is just a one time occurrence you end the Dynamics.exe process and then remove the user from the Activity table if you are unable to delete the user when logging back into GP.
