Organization Import is Taking too Long

Hello everyone,

I was assigned to install the CRM on a new server, and bring the production data in the new CRM. I have done some research, and I found that I have to restore the old database and do an import organization to point to it. My problem is that it is taking too long (it has been running for 5 days now), and I need to do something about it because we really need this server up and running.

I have modified the OptimizeOrgImport registry, and I have cleaned the Sync tables before starting this procedure.

Thank you.

Which version of CRM are you using? Which Update Rollup is installed (significant improvements in org import speed was made in recent URs)? What size is the database size? What's the spec of the database server?

I have installed CRM 4.0, the rollup is 4.0.7333.3, and the database is now 105Gb. As for the last question, I am not too sure; it was not me who installed the server, but if you can tell me what exactly you need to know, I can check .

There are a few things I would do:

Consider updating your CRM system. It looks like you have UR13 installed (published in Sep 2010) and haven't installed an update for over 18 months. blogs.msdn.com/.../microsoft-dynamics-crm-4-0-and-2011-update-rollup-release-dates-build-numbers-and-collateral.aspx

Investigate the size of your database. Depending on the number of users and how long it's been in production, 105GB is a large CRM database. Which tables are taking up all the space? Can any of those tables be cleaned up?

It'll go much faster if the database server can handle the database in memory, but that would require a server with over 100GB of RAM, so I would investigate the server specification.

Thank you. I will look into it and I will post what I did.

As a follow, it might be actually a server problem. We are in the process of configuring a new server and re-install the CRM.

Even if you have found this as a server problem I would suggest you to follow as much optimization steps as you can because the database size is large. Few things you may try

See if the Log file size and if that can be truncated before you take the fresh full backup also see if you can shrink the .mdf file (only if there is much free space which can be released to OS)

    Thanks,
