Changing Company ID?

We are changing a company name and it seems easy enough to change the name in Company Maintenance. Is it possible to change the company ID as well? Do I delete the old company and create a new one using the same application database?

    Hi Joseph,

You cannot change the company ID as that is what identifies all of the transactions for that company in the various tables.  You can't delete the company either.  You could set it to inactive if you no longer need that company.

Can I ask why you need to change the ID?

Thanks for your reply. The company name changed completely from New England European Missions (NEEM) to International Missions Society (IMS). We have changed the Company Name without a problem. We continue to use NEEM as the ID. We thought it would be nice to start using the acronym IMS going forward.

If I deleted NEEM company ID and created a new company ID called IMS could I still use the original Application Database?

    Hello Joseph,

You cannot delete a company out of the database.  You can only set it to inactive.  All of the records in the database, like for GL, AP and AR, have the company id of NEEM.  Even if you could change the company ID to IMS, the system wouldn't see any financial data for that company.  If you want to set NEEM to Inactive, and start over with the financial data for IMS, you have that choice.

Otherwise, we have a tool that you can use to change the company id.  Are you a customer or a partner?

Thanks for the reply. We are a customer. Is there a charge for the tool or is it something we can download and run?

    Hi Joseph,

They are a free download on PartnerSource.  Can you ask your partner to download them for you?

I have used the Keychange add-on to change the company ID.
