I think I am getting a bit confused regarding the different possible values for setting up General Ledger Parameters, "Batch Transfer Rules"

Asynchronous means that transfer will be performed by asynchronous background task (not the same as a batch job). The main issue that asynchronous tasks have quite low priority and there can be delays in transfers (depends on system load).
The batch job can be scheduled from General ledger -> Periodic ->Batch transfer for sub-ledger journals and not need to create the task manually.
Additionally, there is 3rd option now "Subledger transfer to General Ledger performance optimization" which can be activated in feature management. It utilizess process automation framework and can perform transfers in a near-real-time manner with the separated batch job.

1. Asynchronous: Transfer source document subledger journal entries to the general ledger after the source document is journalized into the subledger journal. The transfer occurs whenever server resources are available to process them. This process most likely will occur immediately but may be a bit delayed if server resources are currently slim.
2. Scheduled Batch: Transfer source document subledger journal entries to the general ledger by using a scheduled batch. You can then summarize the entries in the Summarize accounting entries field. If the user decides to choose this option, then you need to setup the batch job for ‘Batch transfer for subledger journals’ at this path (General Ledger > Periodic > Batch transfer for subledger journals). *NOTE*: If you do not have a batch job set up, you will need to go to General Ledger > Subledger journal entries not yet Transferred and transfer them manually by clicking the transfer now button or transfer in batch.
As mentioned by Sergi, The batch job can be scheduled from General ledger -> Periodic ->Batch transfer for sub-ledger journals and not need to create the task manually.
