RMS Store Ops not shutting down completely

Posted on by

Customer running RMS 2.0 FP2 on NCR equipment (Windows 7).  Occasionally, it will appear that RMS is not running (nothing on screen or task bar).  They try to restart it but can't.  On investigation, open Task Manager.  There is nothing in the "Applications" tab, but SOPOSUSER.exe is still listed in the "Processes" tab.  Kill that and then can restart application.

I can't determine why this is happening. I don't see anything useful in the Event Viewer.

-- Is there a log where I can see if /when the application is being closed (to determine if this is user-driven or something on the system causing the application to close?  (The manager reporting the problem when opening the store is not there when the store is closed)

-- If the user is closing the application, they may be using a the macro I assigned to the taskpad that simulates the "ESC" key.  Has anyone had a problem with this?

I have this problem quite often.  Killing the SOPOSUSER process is a great workaround but is Microsoft every going to fix this problem?!

    I come up an idea.

    Create a batch file

    "C:\Windows\System32\taskkil.exe" /IM "SOPOSUSER.exe" /F

    start /d "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Retail Management System\Store Operations" SOPOSUSER.exe

Create shortcut this batch file to desktop and assign the POS icon.

This helps when the POS is crash. Sometime this will not help though.

I have had this problem quite a bit. When it happens I just open task manager and kill the soposuser process.

I had the similar problem couple days ago but seems like it was resolved by restarting the computer. I beleive you have done this as part of your diagnosis. Before restarting the computer, I also checked connecting the database again from the SO Admin and open SO manager to make sure that it was not the database connectivity problem which was not the issue at all. For me, problem started after I was testing some of the things in RMS.

Still I don't know what the real problem was since there was no error or warning message. After this incident, there is no problem so far to date.

Sometimes I got the same problem. How long have you been waiting until you kill the process. Sometimes the POS needs more time (a few MINUTES) to start. It is unusual but sometimes it appears. I think it releates to network or database connectivitiy.
