Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7

Posted on by 80

I am using RMS 2.0 on Windows XP. Since last few months I am having performance issues. I called Microsoft and I was told that they don't support XP any more and I should upgrade too Windows 7. I don't know how? DO I have to reinstall RMS 2.0 I am not technical at all.

Can someone provide me full set of instructions how to do it? Did someone has gone thru this? Please suggest.

Thanks

Anita

    Anita,

Many of our customer ran into the same problem when Microsoft served Windows XP thier expiration of Service notice. We started moving customers over to Windows 7 a few months before that was office but still have some customers that need that integration to remain PCI compliant and secure.

Here is a guideline/information on what we recommend for Windows XP users.

LINK for "Windows XP No Longer Supported By Microsoft"

If you have any further questions or would like any information of process associated to the transition I would more than happy to talk and help you out with that decision.

First off there isn't an upgrade path from Windows XP to Windows 7.  You would either have to backup your database(I would make multiple backup copies just to be safe), then wipe the hard drive on your system and perform a clean installation of Windows 7, then reinstall RMS and restore your database or purchase a system running Windows 7 install RMS on it then backup RMS from your Windows XP system and restore it on your new Windows 7 system.  This is all assuming that you are running RMS on a stand alone system(store database residing on the same system that your are running point of sale on.  If you are running the database on a separate system your steps would be slightly different as you wouldn't need to backup and restore the database.  You would just have to 'point' your RMS installation to the correct database server.

    Hi Anita,

First of all, is it a one shop RMS or a full RMS with Headquarters module

If the first one is true, are you running both the application and the database on the same machine or separate machines?

Let me know so I can suggest some procedures to follow
