Display Avalara CertCapture Exemption Status on Customer Card and in Sales Order

Hi,

My company is in-process of going live with Business Central shortly and we have chosen Avalara AvaTax as our sales tax engine. We have that integration setup and it is working fine. We are also leveraging Avalara CertCapture to manage our exemption certificates. Now I can give access to users to view that exemption detail in CertCapture, but what I would like is to be able to display in Business Central either on the Customer Card or Sales Order or both is either a listing of all states that we have exemption certificates on file for and/or a warning if we don't have an exemption certificate on file for that particular ship-to location for that order. We commonly drop-ship so we may often encounter a new state that we'll be shipping to for which we don't previously have an exemption certificate for or a given certificate may be expired/invalid.

Has anyone achieved this via an API reporting or custom integration?

Thanks!
John

    Hi John,

There is integration with CertCapture and the connector for Business Central.  You can find the information in our help page: help.avalara.com/.../Exempt_customers_from_sales_tax_using_CertCapture_in_Microsoft_Dynamics_365_Business_Central in the the last section.   The tax determination engine does look at the CertCapture certificates on file and does return (or not return) tax as appropriate based on the certificate, customer, goods, etc.  We do not replicate all of the features and functions of CertCapture within Business Central via the integration but we do have some integration including the ability to retrieve certificates from BC without going into CertCapture.

You do raise some interesting enhancements that we could explore.  Thank you for sharing these questions and ideas.  It is something to discuss with our team.

    Sincerely,

    Angela Goldsmith
