detecting calls to D365 and errors coming out

Hi,

If a middleware calls odata/ custom services/odata actions, and an error was returned.

Is there any logging in D365 or LCS where we can see those errors? or the calls that have been sent to D365?

or is the logging only done by the middleware?

    Hi @...

I am not sure but you can enable "custom telemetry" via "Application Insights" for Azure-hosted environments or create "custom exception logging" in your services. LCS provides logs for batch jobs, crashes, or system events—not detailed API traffic.

    Hi,
D365 doesn’t log incoming OData/custom service calls or their errors by default. These are treated as external API requests, so:
Errors returned to middleware (like 400/500 responses) are typically only visible in the middleware logs.
In D365, you can enable custom telemetry via Application Insights to capture API calls and errors — but this requires setup.
For batch-related service calls, check System administration > Inquiries > Batch jobs if the API triggered one.
If the API writes to the database or throws X++ exceptions, those might be visible in System administration > Inquiries > Error log, but only if handled server-side.
So, unless you’ve set up telemetry, the logging is usually on the middleware side.

    Hi

There is no standard logging and you can customize and record the events as listed below in the link

    Thanks

    Hi,

So if I create a custom service/ custom odata action  then enable telemetry,  will it directly start logging calls and errors?
i mean only setup is needed? no development?
