SharePoint 2016 and Dynamics CRM 2016 integration

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

This article covers SharePoint 2013 server-based integration with Dynamics CRM 2016:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/dn949332.aspx

It states that "If you use Microsoft SharePoint 2013, for each SharePoint farm, only one Microsoft Dynamics CRM organization can be configured for server-based integration." and "Connecting more than one Microsoft Dynamics CRM organization to a single SharePoint server is not supported"

To me this implies that the only supported setup is to have one SharePoint farm created and configured for each Dynamics CRM organisation in a given environment. So if you have 5 organisations in a CRM environment, then you will need 5 separate SharePoint farms configured for integration. This seems a bit over-the-top to require an entire SharePoint farm to service one CRM organisation. It seems as though a mapping of one SharePoint site collection to one CRM organisation would make more sense, but that is not what the article says.

I have two questions about this I was hoping that you could please help me with:

1) Is it possible to use one SharePoint farm to service multiple CRM organisations in the same environment?

2) What such restrictions apply with SharePoint 2016?

Thank you,

James

    Hi James,

Did you get a concrete answer on your question? We also have 3 instances with unique org names (Dev, Test, Prod) but only one SharePoint Online farm. I would be interested to hear what you found. Thank you, Diana.

I have found one mention in a setup step by step that indicates the sharepoint org (orgname.sharepoint.com) must match orgname for dynamics (orgname.crm5.dynamics.com) for this to be successful and could be the underlying reason for the 1-1 mapping in question. I have yet to get it operational due to this requirement.

apologies, I did not see the answer, as a previous comment.

    Hi Jellins,

For Server Based Integration the Organization name of the CRM and SharePoint must be same. So different Organizations cannot have same SharePoint for Server Based Integration.

You may refer this link for having a brief look upon Server Based Integration:

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!
    Sam

If I understand correctly the SharePoint document location that you create can be changed for one instance to other instance of CRM. Like for ex., if you have one document location given for a specific organization other one will be having different URL for other CRM instance.
