How many portals?

Dear Community,

My organization wants the following functionality:

  1. A place where selected Contacts can log in to look up other selected Contacts address, employer, etc..
  2. A way for Contacts to register for events (does not necessarily require login)
  3. A test portal

How can I achieve this with one instance of Dynamics - how many portals/portal licenses do I need?

Thank you!

I have the same question (0)

    Hi..

    Licensing Requirements for External Users

External users are not employees, onsite contractors, or onsite agents of the customer or its affiliates (i.e. a

separate company, an independent contractor). External users are end customers and third-party users of

the organization or its affiliates and do not require SLs to access Dynamics 365. External user access is

included with the organization’s internal user SLs. Customer Engagement Applications graphical user

interfaces may not be accessed by external users.

    Dynamics 365 customers have the

Licensing is so complicated question.. you can get more details from

    mbs.microsoft.com/.../Dynamics365LicensingGuide.pdf

    dynamics.microsoft.com/.../

This is high level details..mostly you need to contact Microsoft and need to get details on pricing.

What I want to know is if I can achieve all my required functionality within one portal - that is to say with only one portal license.

    Hi Partner,

    As per my understanding,

you could just integrate all your 3 requirements in 1 portal, lets review your 3 requirements:

    1. Assign web role with sufficient entity permissions to your logged in contacts, then create an entity list on any page for them to view other contacts info.

    > Enable entity permissions for the list if only logged in contacts could view it.

    Visitors:

    Sign in contacts:

    2. Create an entity form:

    > set your Event entity as its source entity,

    > with Mode option be set to Insert,

    > Not enable entity permissions for the form

just as existing "Contact Us" entity form;(it will create a lead record)

In your scenario, you will create an event registration record.

Please read tutorial below for how to render an entity list and entity form on portal web page.

    https://www.engineeredcode.com/blog/dynamics-365-portal-how-does-the-entity-form-or-entity-list-get-on-the-page

    3. That might be based on how would you like to test,

    > you could just create a single web page and test liquid js tag or fetchXML query on it, while not expose its URL on Portal web page.

    > if you would like to test functionality such as knowledge articles or create case which are not easy to customize,

and don't want to disturb the normal use of customers/contacts, then you may need an extra portal for testing.

Finally, you could walk throught for whole process by Youtube channel below with its Session 3, 4, 6, 8.

I wil reply the first time if you still have any doubt.

    Regards,

    Clofly

    Hi,

To answer your question- Yes you can achieve all your requirement with one portal. The below blog will give you some more idea on how you will achieve it as it covers all the basic concepts related to portals-

    Hope this helps.
