Is it possible to create a BOM, which you sell as BOM item but automatically create the BOM lines on a Purchase order (exploded)

Hi Guys,

I'm stuck with this requirement.

My customer wants to be able to sell the BOM item on the sales order line, (NOT exploded) and automatically create a back to back purchase order with the BOM Lines (exploded).

So for example my BOM lookes like:

Item A

Bom lines

1x item B

1x item C

1x item D

On the sales order they want to sell Item A and using the create purchase order or direct delivery function on the sales order they want to create a PO for:

1x item B

1x item C

1x item D

Is this setup possible using standard D365 F&O ? And if so, please give me a clue :-)

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

William

    Hi,

Currently I do not understand the planned overall process. If you sell product A but purchase product B,C and D where do you transfer the purchase items to product A? From my point of view you need an production order or at least am manual BOM journal. Otherwise you do not have product A on stock to deliver it in the sales order.

So by creating a production order with B, C and D in the production BOM you can handle your request with standard possibilities.

    Hi William,

I do agree with Christoph here. It can not be a direct delivery as this will link the sales order lines with the purchase order lines. As the items are different; it is not possible. During a purchase order creation from the sales order there is no standard feature to explode the BOM on the purchase order only.

Standard options to have product A 'on-hand' to prevent negative inventory are provided by Christoph. If you want to have the behavior changed, you can consider a customization or the use of Microsoft Power Automate to create the PO and BOM journal.

consider using master planning and have directly delivery only for FG of BOM while others gets consumed/sourced via planning

Thanks for the answers guys, I'm familiar with the 'normal' BOM process.

In this particular case the BOM is more like a service item, which they sell as one item (line), but purchase  using several service items, so the vendor knows exactly what to do. (line for line)

I'm aware this is a bit out of the ordinary, guess we have to go with the route that Andre suggested and make a customization or do something in Power Automate.

    Hi William,

    I know I'm a bit late.

I think you are looking for bundles.
