Autosave in Outlook goes to the top of the field in stead of the location where I was typing

I'm a really fast typer and I type a lot. When I have had a conversation with a customer,or a meeting with the staff, I try and be as detailed as possible in my documentation. Every 30 seconds though, my screen refreshes and my cursor is placed at the top of the inputbox while I'm typing due to the autosave function. This is very enoying behaviour as I have to delete the characters I had just typed in the wrong place, go to the end and retype/rethink the thread of my thoughts. The behaviour is even worse if you should happen to change the title of an incident, as the autosave function then automatically selects the entire text and any character you type then replaces the title you only meant to change. A good autosave function wil remember where the cursor was at the time of autosaving (start, somewhere in the middle, at the end) and place it right back without the loss of any characters typed in the mean time.

    Hello John,

I tried to reproduce the issue while typing in notes but it didn't get reproduced, even after 30secs the cursor was at its place where it was before auto save happened.

Are you typing under notes section or creating a new record or performing any other activity in CRM?

Can you verify with other users, if  they see same behavior in CRM Online?

    Regards,

    Satish

I use the Microsoft Outlook CRM plugin and I started noticing this behaviour ever since I upgraded to CRM2013-Client-NLD-i386.exe . I work in Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010. Most of my colleagues either work with a different version of Office, or use the CRM online option and have not had the same problem that I have.

It doesn't matter if I'm adding a new customer, of an incident. When I type an incident title, the cursor selects the entire line after a while, of when I'm typing a description it jumps to the beginning. At a customer page there is a description field and it also jumps around in there. I'm having to translate the name of the fields from Dutch, so maybe it is what you describe as the notes section, it just isn't called that in my version as it's called "Beschrijving" which translates to description.

As issue doesn't occurs for other users, so it might be system or user specific issue.

To narrow down it further, Can you verify if same issues happens via Internet Explorer as well on same system?

If yes, then try to access CRM website using your credential on another system via Internet Explorer and check if issue can be reproduced.

    Regards,

    Satish

I have also been able to reproduce.  The issue appears occur during each autosave event when typing in a multiline text field such as Description.

    Hi John,

We have discovered the same issue.  It seems to happen in CRM in the Incident entity (whether we are accessing it directly from Internet Explorer or via Outlook).  When auto-saving, the cursor jumps to the beginning of the field.  Our support team is about to pull their hair out.  Do you know if there is a way to rectify this?  Otherwise, I'm going to have to open a ticket with Microsoft.

My users have discovered this same issue when filling out the "Description" field in Leads. We're using CRM 2013 with Outlook 2010. Anyone have a fix for this? I don't want to disable the AutoSave feature but I may have to. Even extending the autosave timer from 30 seconds to 2 minutes would help.

So far I haven't had any satisfactory sollution to the problem. As I usually type the most in the company I work for, I'm the one affected most with this and to date it has not been resolved.

We ended up opening up a ticket with Microsoft.

    The tech had us:

    1)  Go to Settings / Administration / System Settings, and turned off "Enable Auto Save on all Forms"

    2)  We tested the issue and the problem appeared to have gone away.

    3)  Went back to Settings / Administration / System Settings, and turned "Enable Auto Save on all Forms" back on

    4)  A user tested again and said it was still working correctly.

It looked like everything was resolved, so we closed the ticket, however......

The very next day the jumping behavior was back.  We have chosen to turn off "Enable Auto Save on all Forms" and the behavior has gone away.

CRM still auto saves when you tab off of a field and when you leave a record.  With auto-save off, it no longer saves if you are typing within one field for longer than 30 seconds.  Our users have not felt any impact with auto-save turned off, so we will keep it this way.

I just submitted a suggestion at Microsoft Connect to address this issue.  Please vote to escalate the issue:
