POS 2009 as an RMS Upgrade?

A heads up to anyone who is planning on moving from RMS v2.0.  You should first download an evaluation copy and load it to a computer that is not using your store's RMS.  We have documented more than a dozen features in RMS that have been removed from pOS 2009.  A few of these being;
-the field to put an item's weight
-the flag to denote item is available on the Web
-selecting items for sale in a matrix grid view
Microsoft's documentation highlites the new and enhanced features, but does not note or address the commonly used features that have been removed.

Once you request the new POS 2009 license key you may be entitled to because you kept up your annual MS Foundation, your RMS key will not allow you to reload and re-license RMS.

     Hi Marc.

Any idea how to get the following files:-

    RIToolsPOS2009.zip
    RIToolsPOS2009.msi
    JournalConverter.exe
    POSTools.chm
    RmsMigration.sql
    TaskPadHelper.exe
    UserPasswordReset.exe

They are needed to perform a migration to POS 2009. I am not a partner and as such cannot gain access to them. My existing partner is currently refusing to help on this matter.

We are able to do the database conversion and import from RMS to POS 2009.  It will take between 1 and 4 hours, depending on what your existing data structure.  What type of business do you have?  Have you loaded an evaluation copy of POS 2009 and are familiar with the differences between RMS and POS 2009?

Do you use, Shipping, Item weights, Accounts Receiveable Assemblies, Matrixes, or eCommerce with your RMS?  If you answered yes to any of these features being used in RMS, you will not find them (or have been crippled to reduced functionallity) in POS 2009 along with dozens of other features.  My earlier post was a "beware" for those migrating from RMS v2.0 to POS 2009.

If you want me to do the database conversion, contact me at mbcotton@princeton-pos.net

    Hi Marc.

We are quite happy to do the work. We just need the tools, which nobody, including Microsoft, seem to want to provide us with.

    Simon,

I can hear your frustration, however, Microsoft has not made the tool available for distribution.  I know of other MS Partners you have have reached out to for this and you have received the same answer from them.  I asked you a couple of questions and as to your type of business and if the new POS 2009 will work for you in terms of functions you use now with RMS 2.0. Can you reply?

We are a standard retail shop. Their is a lot of additional functionality in POS 2009 we wish to utilise.

We are still getting requests to help merchants convert their RMS database to POS2009.

Please note, because of the deficiencies and loss of functionality of POS2009 compared to RMS, we will not sell, support, deploy, or convert data to POS2009. We have dealt with enough issues in POS2009 that will NOT be resolved by MS.   This is NOT an RMS upgrade, but rather only an upgrade to the discontinued MS POS debacle.
