Default Inventory Minimum Order Quantities to restrict quantity released?

Hi All,

I think I'm missing something here. My understanding is that the Default Inventory Order settings should restrict the quantity to be used in the warehouse/transfer orders, but this doesn't seem to be working in my case.

I have the following scenario:

Item JDW150-6 has a Purchased, Inventory and Sales order unit of measure of pairs "PR". Along with Unit conversions to define 12 PR in a Dozen "DZ" and 12 DZ in a Case "CS".

I've set the minimum on the Sales Min. Order and Multiple as 12 PR and have done the same with Inventory Min. Order and Multiple.

I then create a sales order and it enters the minimum of 12 without issue. But here comes the issue:

If I only have 11 PR on hand, when the sales order is released, it creates work for 11 PR rather than respecting the inventory minimum order settings.

What am I missing?

Thanks in advance,

Simon

    Hi Simon,

In the middle section of the Location directive for Sales orders, tick the Restrict by unit tick box. Then use the Restrict by unit button and add the unit 'DZ'.

With this setting, AX will fail to find a location to pick PRs from. I just wondering what will happen next! If the Location directive failure allows it, AX might create a Work line with no location. If the Location directive failure does not allow that, AX will fail to create work..... but will it fail to create ALL work, or only fail to create the work for the PRs. Can you test?

Hi All and thanks for the continued help,

The trouble with fulfillment rate is that it's order specific, not order line (item) specific. As we already specify a fulfillment rate minimum of 10% of the order I can't use that to define the release.

    :

For an order of 12 with 11 available, I wouldn't want any released. For an order of 24 with only 23 available, I would want 12 released.

I attempted to tackle this by making the Sales Order UOM "DZ", but upon order of 12 DZ with 143 available, the reservation and work is created for 143 PR instead of the hoped for result of 132 PR with 1 DZ (12 PR) left on order.

    Thanks again for any insight,

    Simon

    Hi Simon,

What would you like to happen if there is only 11 on-hand? What should happen if the order is for 24, and there is only 23 on-hand?

    Hi Simon Bradford,

Default order settings are not meant for what you want to achieve. Default order settings define the min order quantity for a particular item and it means that you cannot sell less than that quantity but can be overridden if needed.

Min order quantity have no control over the release to warehouse. If you want that the sales order should not be released to warehouse if the physical inventory is less than the sales order qty then define fulfillment rate in parameters.

Navigate to accounts receivable > Warehouse management > Fulfillment rate and enter 100% here to define that and the value type to be quantity and fulfillment violation message to be error.

So a sales order will only be released to warehouse if the 100% of the sales order quantity is reserved else it will show an error. In the below screenshot you can see the error as I try to release a sales order which is not having full reservation or available inventory and the setup.

    Hi Yohann,

I don't disagree, are you aware of method to restrict the release of an item (work creation) to occur only at a certain minimum?

    Thanks,

    Simon

Hi, the min quantity indeed does not block anything - as far as I know - but warns you if you try to change the standard quantity under the min quantity (meaning you can order < min quantity). So your issue occurs after the creation process it's not surprising that the system allows you to do that.
