Fostering Analysis Cubes Adoption

Posted on by 305

All,

I have recently configured Analysis Cubes in our company in an effort to enable OLAP reporting. What I am finding a challenge is that there is a considerable effort or knowledge needed in order to build the Excel reports that leverage the cubes. Can anyone help me with past experiences releasing the cubes packaged. Is there a set of prebuilt Excel reports that leverage the package so I can show bang for the buck quickly without having to develop all the reports from scratch?

You should still be fine.  If you purchased analysis cubes through Dynamics (rather than just setting up analysis services and creating your own cubes).  If you look at the documentation for installation, there should be a piece that gets installed on workstations that then gives the pivot table creator in Dynamics, which can be used to create excel spreadsheets based on the cubes.

Actually I just did the research and I did not buy the Dynamics Analysis Cubes Library. We just bought the Analysis Cubes. Do you have any idea how much this product costs and if there is a big benefit to it. Sometimes I feel like I am being nickel and dimed for everything here. Is there a demo somewhere or some samples available somewhere????

     Thanks for all the help,

Are you using the Dynamics GP Analysis Cubes Library?  If so, there Pivot Table Creator that is installed in Dynamics is a pretty user-friendly way to interact with the cubes.  It is limited in what it can do, but can serve as an entry point.  Of course, to my knowledge, it will only interact with the cubes provided within the Dynamics GP Analysis Cubes Library.

     Take care,

    Christina
