Hello,
I plan to upgrade my Active Directory from 2008 R2 to 2016.
My Question Does Dynamics AX 4.0 have compatibility with Active Directory 2016 ?
Thank you.
Dont think it will support , In windows server 2016 Lowest Domain and Forest functional level is only up to Windows Server 2012 R2 .https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/identity/ad-ds/active-directory-functional-levels.Please refer this thread also : https://community.dynamics.com/ax/f/microsoft-dynamics-ax-forum/155254/active-directory-supported-dynamic-version/363822
Thanks & Regards,
Amith Prasanna
Hi Amith,
Did you mean that Axapta 4.0 don't support functional level 2012 R2 or above?
Yeah i did refer to that thread, but it's about AX 2009. And i've read from www.microsoft.com/.../confirmation.aspx and the only thing they tell that Active Directory must be configured in native mode.
Hi Ivander,
Note that the support for AX 4 has been ended. So, there is no compatibility check or warranties from Microsoft.
Hi Andre,
yeah, but since our client since use it & we want to migrate their Active Directory from 2008 R2 to 2016, we need certainty that client's Axapta 4.0 will still running after that.
and here i hope someone has tried the same case / having this kind of environment.
Sure, that is why we have this forum. Let's hope someone has this experience. Otherwise, you have to test it yourself.
Lets assume Axapta 4.0 not compatible with Domain Controller 2016, and so i'll leave one 2008 R2 DC in the Environment.
My Question, can we pointing Axapta 4.0 directly only using the 2008 R2 DC?
Thanks
I'm not an Active Directory specialist, but I do think you need to have a separate domain forest then.
So , in this case best method is to do end to end testing using separate environment. you can easily capture your physical severs as Virtual using Disk2Vhd tool , then setup Virtual Environment using those VM on Isolated Network (Virtual Network will do) , while keeping your AX 4.0 , try to migrate your AD from Server 2008R2 to Windows Server 2016 on test environment . by doing that you can test what ever you want without interrupting running /production systems.
