Using 'Connections' between two custom entities

Hi All,

I'm trying to work out if the 'Connections' functionality in D365 would be useful and am having some trouble getting it to work.

Scenario

I've set-up an environment in a trial D365 instance and have configured the following:

2 Custom Entities

  • Test Candidate and Test Job Opportunity
    • Both with 'Connections' enabled in the entity properties

2 Connection Roles

  • (This is where I get a bit uncertain)
  • Job Opportunity - for the selected record types I've tried All, Test Candidate only and Test Candidate & Test Job Opportunity
  • Candidate - for the selected record types I've tried All, Test Job Opportunity only and Test Job Opportunity & Test Candidate
    • I've added both as matching connections so when I open the Candidate role I see Job Opportunity in the Matching Connection Roles and visa versa

The issue: When I open a Test Candidate record, and try to create a connection, I can't see records from the Test Job Opportunity entity and visa versa (see below)

The Question:

Is it not possible to connect two custom entities together, or am I doing something wrong?

I've tried following guidance from these sources, but I still haven't got it to work for me:

When you define the connection role you need to choose applicable record types. Once done you will be able to choose connection role for that entity.

Hi Abdul, Thanks for your suggestion however I have already tried various combinations for the record types and it didn't seem to help.

For the Job Opportunity role, I've tried the combinations of selecting 'All',  the 'Test Candidate' entity only and both the 'Test Candidate' & 'Test Job Opportunity'  and done the same for the Candidate role.

    Hi CamParker,

This is because your custom entity is not added to the app, so you cannot use it in the connection.

Go to Advanced Settings > My Apps, open in app designer.

Click Entities, select your 2 custom entities, save and publish.
