Hi all,

Can any tell me the answers for this questions.

1.when we will use fetch XML and when we will use JQuery.but both are XML based languages right?

2.when we will use odata and when we will use soap services?

I am little bit confused with when we will use which one.

Best regards,

Praveen kumar

    RE: fetch XML/j query/odata/soap

    Hi,

jQuery has nothing to do with fetch XML. And neither of them are languages. jQuery is a javascript library initially intended to ease up handling DOM for HTML websites. So for example you can easily look for an element in HTML, replace it with something else, add some other element dynamically etc. Later on jQuery grew and (alongside with multiple plugins) is now almost like a framework which you can use to build HTML websites and components, do ajax calls etc.. jQuery has nothing to do with CRM, of course you can use it in CRM HTML web resources or include jquery as a library on CRM form.

FetchXML is used to get data from CRM soap service. You can prepare FetchXML and send to CRM and you will get some entities. There are plenty of tutorials on the net, so you can google this up.

    2) Odata is a REST service, so usually you will use it from web resources (very easy to use from Javascript) or from languages outside .NET world. If yo are writing .NET application, then the easiest way is to use soap service as this is a normal WCF service that most of .NET developers know and use. Also not everything that is in Soap service is available through OData service.
