    Hi Dhia Eddine Mattout,

You used the Tag AX3.0. The screenprint does not appear to be created from that old Version. Can you correct that please.

Regarding the barcodes in the fixed asset report:

In AX2012 - an this is what you system looks like - there is a fixed asset parameter saying 'Barcode equals fixed asset number'. You can make use of this parameter and/or alternatively setup the Barcodes in the fixed asset group level. The fixed asset Groups form also includes a barcode setup section. Please check that.

Once this setup has been done you can open the report and select from a barcode setup that can be made in the organization admin module under setup-barcode.

Please test those setups and functionalities that you should be able to do yourself without technical help from a developer.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Thanks for the reply ,

Normally barcode will be setup manually, I believe that code will come from vendor , which we need to enter manually in  AX.

My question is how the number sequence or the setups what you explained above are useful ?

    Hi lally,

Larger companies typically classify their fixed assets with their own barcode numbers. I have not seen that the fixed asset bar codes come from the vendor. So, you create your fixed asset barcode number, print a label and stick it on top of your fixed asset. My company is doing that for all our laptop computers and I assume in your company it might be similar.

Putting a barcode sticker on top of the fixed assets is useful for tracking the fixed assets and for year end closing procedures.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

RE: Barcode of the fixed assets

This is fine for new assets coming in one by one.

For asset take on of multiple assets then the process of printing labels and moving those to various departments, identifying the asset physically, then searching to find the correct label is not a trivial task.  Nor will each department generally have label printers and scanners.

Ax does not currently support mobile asset tracking without customisation.

So consider the process if how that will be done. E.g will each department labels its own assets. or will you have dedicated tea,.

How will you read those bar code labels and update Ax. E.g is to automate asset movements, or to do an annual inventory count? This needs more than just a label.  Will you bring the scanner to the asset or the asset to the scanner?. How many mobile devices? What middleware? Does it support offline?

What assets, need how many, of which type of label, for what environments? Kitchens? roof tops? etc.

Once assets are labelled life is easy, but initial take on is seldom as straightforward as you might think.

If those doing such audit work don't otherwise use Ax then you might even want to look at a specialist asset management solution.

If you have multiple assets, asset types,  and locations, them it is probably best to engage specialists
