I have created a .pbix file in Power BI Desktop. Now I want to upload the file into the D365 environment through LCS.Do I need to buy any license for that or will the standard D365 super user license will be enough for this.
Hi Sanchayan,
Of course, you can upload the .pbix file to LCS.
But if you want to share the report in Power BI Service to other users, and users view report in D365FO , then the users should have pro licenses.
Please refer to the following link:

By the way, you also could post this problem in PowerBI forum for more suggestions.
Hope this helps.
Hi Will,
Thanks for the reply. One more question. We are able to view the power bi reports that are already deployed in the system from CFO overview workspace.Does they follow a different logic and for viewing the PRO license is not required.
Thanks,
Sanchayan
CFO Overview is an Embedded report.
Embedded PowerBI does not cost anything. It is included in D365FO license.
If your new Power BI report is in DirectQuery mode, and is based exclusively on Entity Store Datasets, you can use it also similar to CFO overview.
If your report is in Import mode, or it has data not based exclusively on Entity store, you have to implement PowerBI service, which will have additional costs.
Hi Crispin,
Thanks. What if I use ODATA.Will it perform the same way as direct query.
No, it doesn't.
Embedded => only Entity store + Direct Query mode
Power BI service => only Entity store + Import mode
Power BI service => OData, BYOD, other external datasources (any mode)
+1 Crispin
no additional license needed other than those covered in D365FO roles for embedd
however for Power BI service, consider if free or premium is needed and ofcourse cost of BYOD
Hello Sanchayan,OData is not recommended for PowerBI Reporting.
Direct Query is the recommended approach when it comes to developing and deploying reports in PowerBI. The moment you upload and deploy your reports to production, you will clearly see a performance improvement when you use DirectQuery.

Hello Sanchayan,
Depends on the report that you are building. You will need a PowerBI pro license if you are deploying custom reports in PowerBI. Also, if you are using the app workspace approach where you provide access to non-D365 users then you will need the PowerBI pro license because App workspace is a capability available as a part of the PowerBI pro license. In addition to this, use the following approach:1. Entity Store is the best way to go forward when it comes to developing and deploying reports in PowerBI.2. Always ensure that you the DirectQuery approach. Import and OData approach is not recommended. A few questions:1. Are you using existing entities or building custom entities?2. Are you use the Entity store approach or BYOD?
As Crispin pointed out, you can use the CFO approach to build your reports to deploy PowerbI reports because the licenses are included as a part of the D365 license, but in your case, it is a custom PowerBI report so you will need additional PowerBI pro licenses. You should received LicenseNotFound Exception if you try to deploy the custom report to a Production D365 environment
Hi Navneet,
My requirement is that i want to develop a powerbi report which would give me a dashboard showing realtime sales count.Found it possible with odata. Not sure whether the direct query approach will work in a dynamics 365 FO hosted in the cloud environment.
Are you referring to a dashboard (Sales count dashboard) in PowerBI or showing it inside D365 FO? Either ways, Direct Query is the recommended approach for deploying PowerBI reports in D365FO. OData is not a supported nor a recommended approach in D365 FO, although it is possible to use it in the Cloud environment. Implementation wise, DirectQuery is the recommendation.
