Multi-Language Label Management

Hi everyone,

I am working on a Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations product that supports 13 different languages, and each language has its own label file.

Currently, whenever I create a new label, I have to:

  • Translate the label into 13 languages
  • Manually add the translated text into 13 separate label files

This process is becoming time-consuming and hard to maintain, especially as the product continues to grow.

👉 My questions:

  1. Is there any best practice or recommended approach to manage multi-language labels more efficiently in D365 F&O?
  2. Is there any automation, centralized label management, or Excel-based import/export approach that can reduce manual effort?
  3. How do you handle this in large or long-running projects?

Any suggestions, experiences, or references would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not much involved in these things, but I can give you a few pieces of information.

In general, if you want all labels in thirteen languages, you must define all labels in at least one language and then somehow translate it to the other twelve. This can't be avoided. But:
    1. It doesn't have to be done one by one at the time when creating the label. You can define all labels in one language and then translate the whole label file, or maybe all new labels since the last translation.
    2. You don't have to do it on your own. You might give it to a translation agency or AI. Of course, the context is crucial to be able to provide correct translation, therefore you should write descriptions of the labels, which translators can use. Without them, being able to see cross-references helps enormously, but that's usually not available if you don't do the translation in-house. It could be exported, though.
There used to be a translation service on LCS, but Microsoft has deprecated it and said merely that we should use Microsoft Custom Translator instead. It basically means developing a custom solution based on their AI translation component; it's not something where you can simply upload your label file and get it translated.

    Hi Muhammad,

Microsoft had a Dynamics Translation Service, but this got deprecated last year. Removed or deprecated platform features - Finance & Operations | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn
As an alternative, you can use Microsoft Custom Translator for performing translations.

In the past, I created a pipeline to extract the label files, sending it the the Dynamics Translation Service and received the translated files. I haven't looked myself into the option to do a similar thing with the Custom translator.
