Copilot chat in D365 F&O is not generating proper responses

Hey everyone, a customer has an issue with the Dynamics 365 F&O integrated copilot, it does not give out proper responses. Let's say the customer types in "How many open POs do we have?" The copilot will not give out the open Pos or a number, but instructions on where the find POs in d365 F&O. Same goes for every other type of question. Generally, the copilot chat in D365 F&O only gives answers in the form of instructions but not actual responses based on the data in the system. Does someone know what the issue could be here? Have you heard about the same issue from other customers?

Hi,

The default behavior of the Copilot sidecar is to answer questions with Microsoft Learn as knowledge source. In case you want to ask questions about data, you need to add knowledge sources via Copilot Studio.

Next the extension options as shared by Sohaib, you can also add the MCP (Model Context Protocol) for Dynamics 365 ERP which has, today, a few options to response on questions related to business data.

Side-card chat is not designed to answer you on data questions.

You have option to extend it in two ways

1) using Dataverse Virtual Entities (cons: 15 entities limit) https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/copilot/chat-with-fno-data

2) using custom X++ code (do whatever you may want) https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/copilot/copilot-ai-plugins
