Using a Scanner With Remote Desktop

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We have GP installed on a Server 2012 R2 server and our clients use Remote Desktop to use it. Our clients are running Win 8.1 Pro, the clients are trying to use Documate 3220 scanners to scan the invoices to the transactions. This process has been a headache trying to setup. Remote FX redirect does not seem to work. Also 3rd party software does work with other simple scanning software, but not GP. The issue is that GP needs to see a WIA scanner, all the 3rd party redirecting software can redirect a WIA scanner but it shows up on the server as a TWAIN scanner. Once again this works with other software, but since GP looks for a WIA scanner the scanning button is disabled as the software does not recognize there is a scanner available.

This project has been terribly frustrating and eating up much of my time. Has anyone gotten a simple USB scanner attached to a client computer to work with GP using a Remote Desktop connection?

    Hi John,

It is my understanding that the WIA protocol might not be supported in RDP mode or thru published apps.

Hello waterboy550. Did you ever figure this out? I have similar issue. Running Windows server 2012 R2 Remote applications and Dynamics 2013. I have tried with both Xerox and HP scanners. It does not work. If someone out there has figured this they would be a real hero to post how they did it.

Within  the Great Plains Purchasing module, you can scan an invoice document directly into the system.  The document is attached to the actual transaction.  The Scan button removes the need to scan the invoice to the local workstation and then attach it to the tranaction.  It cuts out a step.

    Hi,

An interesting question, we use Xerox Copier/Printer/Scanner which is on the network, a document is scanned and can be retrieved via the IP address in your browser. It can then be attached to email or any other document. I am not sure I understand what you mean by 'scan invoices to the transactions'.

    Regards

Sad that there is no response.  I have the same problem using a Canon scanner.  Well not the same exact problem - I'm attempting to do this in a Citrix environment.
