The best way to update CRM forms

Hi all,

I am looking for the best method to move from an older CRM form to a newly updated form.

I know about the "Merge" button - but is that the best way? If I Merge the two forms, then the older form will be deactivated (I know that I can reactivate it if needed.)

Is it better just to manually move everything over to the new form so that the layout is the same?

We are moving from 2011 forms to 2016 forms.

    Hi,

I find that the best approach is to copy the new updated forms and then add your fields to that - then deactivate the standard forms. This ensure that you get the new updated form layouts and keep the OOTB forms for reference. It also has the benefit of any managed solutions installed will not affect your forms.

    Hope this helps

    Hey Scott,

Sorry for being a little "slow" here, but what do you mean by "copy the new updated forms"?

The new form is already live in our environment - All you have to do is select the drop down on the form and change between the old and new forms.

    Thanks for your reply!

If your new Form is already in the Environment, what exactly are you trying to achieve? If you want to change the Fields on the new Form so they look similar to the old Form, you will have to go into the Customisation area and alter the new Form.

I am trying to get the new form to have the same layout and same fields as the new form.

What will merging the forms do?

I meant to say the **old form.

You can't merge Forms, only Records. Could you not just use the old Form from the Form selector? From what I gather it's the old Form your wanting to replicate anyway. Wouldn't that save you the time and effort of trying to replicate it?

You're wrong - You can definitely merge forms if you are using CRM 2013 or later.

You are also not taking the time to understand my question, or else you would already know that using the 2011 form is out of the question since we want to use the 2016 forms with all the 2011 fields and sections on that form.

Can anyone else provide some input on this?

You are correct. You can merge Forms. Not something I've come across before, interesting.

However, not sure there's grounds to be so rude when obtaining free advice on a community forum!

Sorry that you think I was being rude. You can refrain from posting any more responses on my thread since you just posted a link that shows someone how to use the merge button (which I already know how to do- and you don't). And that also has nothing to do with my original question.

Maybe you should read through that link to gain some knowledge on that feature. That's my free advice for the day :)
