AX2012 AOS Cluster and webservices question

Hello,

I have an AX 2012R3 configuration with 4 AOS servers - aossrv101, aossrv102, aossrv103, aossrv104

They are in an AOS load balancing cluster without a load balancer. These AOSs are primarily for user client connections.

I then have an external application which accesses AX via a webservice, using an URL like the one below:

net.tcp://AOSSRV103:8101/DynamicsAx/Services/MyService

My question is - will the load balancing have any impact on how the webservice request is handled? Given the url - will that request be processed on the server aossrv103? Or will the load balancing forward the request to a different AOS?

I am aware that the above configuration is not necessarily best practice, but I need to know how AX will handle this. I can tell you that it is to workaround a certain technical problem but would prefer not to go into any more details.

Grzegorz

If you point to a specific AX AOS, then that AOS will handle the request. AOS-based load balancing is only for establishing regular client connectivity.

If you want services to be load balanced, you have to use a hardware- or software based balancer, or the one that comes with Windows Server - Network Load Balancer.

For the exact same reason we use 2 AOSes for our AX users with the traditional load balancing cluster setup (without dedicated load balancer AOS service), and a hardware NLB for our AIF calls that are services by another 2 set of AOS instances.

We are also using 2x Windows NLBs for connectivity between our SSRS and AX AOS instances in a scale-out deployment.

Thanks Vilmos. In our specific scenario we do not want load balancing for AIF calls. Your response seems to answer my question. Once again thanks.
