Understanding server side sync for CRM Online

Hi,

We are using server side sync for CRM online. This is a production instance and we're not using

  • CRM App for Outlook or
  • CRM Client for Office Outlook

for any of our users yet.

Server side sync has been successfully configured and all the mailboxes have a success status within CRM i.e. Incoming, Outgoing emails and Appointments, Contacts and Tasks have the status of success for server side sync.

My understanding (from whatever I've been reading about sss) is that when any user create an appointment (meeting request) from Outlook, it must automatically create an appointment in Dynamics CRM since we're using server side sync, but I don't see that happening.

Either I have a false understanding, or something is not rightly configured. Can anyone suggest / comment on this?

Thank you,

    Hello Gagandeep;

Microsoft has server side sync being bi-directional. If we look at how they explain it:

"Server-side synchronization is the preferred option for organizations with users who run Microsoft Dynamics CRM in a web browser or on a mobile device, such as a tablet or smartphone. Server-side synchronization provides direct Microsoft Dynamics CRM-to-email server synchronization. When you use Exchange, this includes bi-directional synchronization of email, contacts, tasks, and appointments. The data synchronized for each user can be controlled by using synchronization filters that are available from the Synchronization tab in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM user options dialog."

It should be syncing both ways. If you make an appointment it should sync from crm to outlook or the other way around.

    Hello Gagandeep,

The truth is: existing items are synced both ways, not new items. When you create an appointment in Outlook, the ONLY way to have it in CRM is to track it with the addin or the app. If you want it on both sides, then it must be created in CRM. Only incoming (not outgoing) emails can be promoted to CRM automatically, with the appropriate settings in place.

    Hi Gagan,

    Few troubleshooting steps are

    1. verification of mail box properties -> Synchronization methods settings are proper

    2. Verify whether out going emails are synchronized to CRM.

Please refer below link if you didn't visit it to see troubleshooting steps
