item reconciler PSTL does not fix all items

Hello - I was wondering if anybody who used Item Reconciler from PSTL had experienced this issue before. (GP2010 sp1 and PSTL 11.0.14.)

We ran PSTL Item Reconciler and GP Item Reconciliation against the same company DB (used the same backup), and saw different result on 1 out of 3 items. GP Item Reconciliation fixed all 3 items including the one which had the wrong Back order QTY on Item Quantity Master, but PSTL Item Reconciler didn't update this item.

One of our client has over 200,000 items stored in GP, and takes 18 hours to run GP item reconciliation. We were hoping they can start utilizing the much faster PSTL Item Reconciler, but questioning if this tool can be trusted...

Thanks!

Hiroko

    Dave,

The PSTL might be calling the same script, but is it passing the same parameter values?

    Hi,

We have the same problem with PSTL and we don't use multi-bin feature. sometime PSTL will show in its report there is an item need to be reconcile but it will not fix it and I run the normal reconcile for the same item it will fix it.

RE: item reconciler PSTL does not fix all items

I use the PSTL Item reconciler often and I can tell you that you can run it right after it finishes and it will again find items to reconcile which shows it is flawed, however although it doesn't fix all issues and sometimes reconciles items it probably doesn't need to, it is a better solution than waiting for reconcile on all inventory if you want to run it on a regular basis, I would however advise the full reconcile process occasionally.

I have also noticed that since GP2013 R2 there seems to be an issue where records in SVC00212 are not marked posted when they should be and that sometimes causes the PSTL reconciler to run for a much longer period if those records are not corrected.

    Dave,

Thank you for your help, you are a bright light on the forum. The problem I have had with multi-bin is when the amount allocated doesn't match the IV00102 table.

Like so many things, we never have time (well, I never do) to do all the testing. I'll try to build the situation and write it up for you. My book is finished, so I can breath a little now. I've been back on the forum and I'm starting to feel like a human again!

Thank you for all of your help, you're a gem.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Hi Leslie \ Dave,

thanks for your updates on this. What Leslie mentioned "Multi Bin" may be the answer here as this client does have bins enabled in GP. I am thinking to create the same wrong back order qty scenario in non multi bin environment (by updating IV00102) and see if item reconciler picks it up.

    Best Regards,

    Hiroko

Leslie,  If you think you have an issue with multi-bin and the PSTL reconciler, let me know the details, I'd be happy to look at it.

    Hi Dave

You can see the source code so you know for sure, but out here in the trenches I have, without question, experienced different results between the two utilities. Each time, the client was using multi-bin. Maybe it has something to do with those up front checks, but I assure you, they do not produce the exact same results.

    Kind regards

Re: item reconciler PSTL does not fix all items

Let me explain how the PSTL reconciler works.

The PSTL Item Reconciler has a number of checks up front that tries to determine whether an item needs to be reconciled or not.  I won't go into every single check here, but it looks at Qty Allocated, Qty On Hand, Sites and compares against purchase receipts and POP and SOP and so forth.  If some of the numbers don't seem to add up, then it reconciles that item.

The reconcile does the same thing as the GP reconcile, it even calls the same script.  The only difference is that PSTL will only reconcile items it thinks needs to be reconciled, while GP reconciles whatever range you put in.  That's the only reason the Item reconciler is faster, because it reconciles less items.

So in this case, PSTL probably didn't pick up whatever was wrong with the item that you mentioned.  You mentioned the Back Order Qty was wrong, PSTL probably doesn't have a check for whatever it is that is wrong with that item, so it didn't think it needed to be reconciled.  The reasons for that could be numerous.  GP reconciled the item because it reconciles whatever you put in.

Whether to use PSTL reconciler or not is up to you, but that's how it works and that's why it's faster.

Re: item reconciler PSTL does not fix all items

    Hiroko,

I agree that the PSTL item reconciler and the regular item reconciler do not do the same thing. This behavior is more obvious with my clients using multi-bin inventory. I know this doesn't answer your question, but I want to confirm that the two reconciliations ARE different.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
