Unable to install Microsoft Dynamics 365 Report Authoring Extension.

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I am unable to install Microsoft Dynamics 365 Report Authoring Extension.

It said I am missing components and links me to the following website,

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/dynamicscrm-2016/deployment-administrators-guide/hh699754(v=crm.8)?redirectedfrom=MSDN#report_auth_gen_req.

However I installed the entire SQL tool set from visual studio 2019. So I don't understand what is missing? I also tried to install SSDT manually but that seems to be for VS2015 which I am not using nor was I able to install it.

So in summary,

I installed the SQL tool set in vs2019 now I tried installing the extension for CRM report authoring for version 9 and version 8.2.

Neither worked as they are both missing required components. Also the system I am using this against is CRM v8.2 on prem.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I was able to install SSDT for visual studio 2017 and the CRM extension. But the crm option doesn't show up in VS2017 when creating a new connection for a report? So I ended up moving to VS2015, when installing SSDT for 2015 I got the same error failed to find public key. I started manually installing everything it needed but it is not trying to install "VSTASetup2015". I went and manually installed this but it is still trying to install it for whatever reason. So my two ideas were to figure out the common error I get when it tried to install anything which was "Failed to find expected public key in certificate chain" or to figure out why the SSDT installer is trying to install "VSTASetup2015" when it is already installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Do you have any further details as to the missing required components besides the link you provided?

So first, did you try the following SSDT? https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=832313

Next, did you then use the following install of Report Authoring Extensions for 8.2?
