Busniness Central connection to Power BI

Hello everyone,

I have a question about connecting BC (online) with Power BI oData.

1) Is it possible to connect to Power BI with an assigned Team member license in BC?

2) Is it necessary to have a license and an assigned user in BC to download data from BC to Power BI / Is only an API link enough?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi

    1) Yes team member license is enough as far as that user has access to pages (data) that you want access from Power BI.

    2) Yes. That is the only way that Power BI can access and authenticate with BC.

We use team member license for this purpose. This way we have designated user that we know it is there to refresh the data.

Thank you very much for help.

If I understood correctly, in order to be able to download data to Power BI, the client, in addition to the user license, should buy one additional Team member BC license (for a technical user - who only downloads data to Power BI)?

    it depends

    1) if Technical user that design, maintain, and refresh Power BI (or refresh happens under her/his user) has BC license then no extra license required.

    2) If technical user has no BC license then yes one type of license is required for that user. Team is the less expensive one.

    Hi!

To connect Business Central to Power BI, you can follow these steps:

    1. Direct Integration via OData Protocol: Skyvia enables a direct connection using OData for real-time data synchronization. A Team Member license in Business Central should suffice, but it will come with limited functionality.

    2. Data Replication in a Data Warehouse: Use Skyvia to replicate Business Central data in a data warehouse, and then link Power BI to this warehouse for more efficient reporting.

Remember, you need a valid Business Central user account for data access; just having an API link won’t be enough.
